Biography of Richard York 1st Earl Cambridge 1385-1415
On 20 Jul 1385 Richard York 1st Earl Cambridge 1385-1415 was born to Edmund of Langley 1st Duke York 1341-1402 (44) and Isabella of Castile Duchess York 1355-1392 (30) at Conisburgh Castle, Conisburgh, Yorkshire although there was speculation the father was John Holland 1st Duke Exeter 1352-1400 (33) with whom Isabella of Castile Duchess York 1355-1392 (30) was suspected of having an affair.
On 23 Dec 1392 Isabella of Castile Duchess York 1355-1392 (37) died . She the wife of Edmund of Langley 1st Duke York 1341-1402 (51) . Isabella had travelled to England with her sister Constance of Castile Duchess of Lancaster 1354-1394 (38) who had married Edmund's elder brother John of Gaunt 1st Duke Lancaster 1340-1399 (52) . Isabella and Edmund's marriage was not, apparently, a happy one. She is known to have had an affair with John Holland 1st Duke Exeter 1352-1400 (40) who may have been the father of Richard York 1st Earl Cambridge 1385-1415 (7) progenitor of the House of York.
On 01 Aug 1402 Edmund of Langley 1st Duke York 1341-1402 (61) died at King's Langley, Hertfordshire . His son Edward York 1st Duke Albemarle aka Aumale, 2nd Duke York 1373-1415 (29) succeeded as 2nd Duke York (1C 1385) , 2nd Earl Cambridge (2C 1362) . Philippa Mohun Duchess Albemarle aka Aumale, Duchess York 1378-1431 (24) by marriage Duchess Albemarle aka Aumale (2C 1397) .
On May 1406 Richard York 1st Earl Cambridge 1385-1415 (20) and Anne Mortimer Countess Cambridge 1390-1411 (15) were married (he was her first-cousin twice-removed)
In 1409 Isabel York Count Eu, Countess Essex 1409-1484 was born to Richard York 1st Earl Cambridge 1385-1415 (23) and Anne Mortimer Countess Cambridge 1390-1411 (18) .
