Biography of Antonio Canova 1757-1822
After 21 Feb 1814. Monument to Amelia Sophia Hume Countess Brownlow 1788-1814 in St Peter and St Paul Church, Belton House, Belton, Grantham, Lincolnshire. Sculpted by Antonio Canova 1757-1822 (56).
After 1848. St Luke's Church, Gaddesby, Leicestershire. Monument to Edward Hawkins Cheney 1778-1848 (69) of the Royal Scots Greys fighting at Waterloo. His horse shot, collapsing; one of four he rode into battle. He survived the battle dying in 1845.
The frieze below the sculpture depicts Sergeant Ewart, related to Cheney by marriage, seizing the French Eagle Standard.
Sculpted by Joseph Gott Sculptor 1785-1860 (63) who apprenticed to John Flaxman Sculptor 1755-1826 between 1798 and 1802. In 1822 Gott travelled to Rome and met Antonio Canova 1757-1822.
