Biography of Isabel Douglas Countess Mar 1360-1408

In 1357 [her father] William Douglas 1st Earl Douglas (age 34) and [her mother] were married. She the daughter of (age 64) and Isabella Stewart.

On 26 Jan 1358 [her father] William Douglas 1st Earl Douglas (age 35) was created 1st Earl Douglas. [her mother] by marriage Countess Douglas.

In 1360 Isabel Douglas Countess Mar was born to William Douglas 1st Earl Douglas (age 37) and .

In 1377 [her uncle] (age 47) died. His sister [her mother] succeeded 11th Countess Mar.

In 1384 [her father] William Douglas 1st Earl Douglas (age 61) died. His son [her brother] James Douglas 2nd Earl Douglas (age 26) succeeded 2nd Earl Douglas.

Battle of Otterburn

On either 05 Aug 1388 or 19 Aug 1388 a Scottish army commanded by John Swinton defeated an English army commanded by Henry "Hotspur" Percy (age 24) during the Battle of Otterburn at Otterburn [Map]. Henry "Hotspur" Percy (age 24) and his brother Ralph Percy (age 29) were captured as was Matthew Redman (age 60). The English suffered 1000 killed, 2000 captured. The Scottish 100 killed, 200 captured.
On the Scottish side [her brother] James Douglas 2nd Earl Douglas (age 30) was killed. His sister Isabel Douglas Countess Mar (age 28) succeeded Countess Mar.

In 1404 Alexander Stewart 1st Earl Mar (age 29) and Isabel Douglas Countess Mar (age 44) were married. He by marriage Earl Mar. She the daughter of William Douglas 1st Earl Douglas and . He the son of Alexander "The Wolf of Badenoch" Stewart 3rd Earl Buchan 1343-1405 (age 61) and Mariota Mackay Countess Moray. They were half fourth cousins. He a great x 5 grandson of King John "Lackland" of England.
