On 02 Jul 1675 [his grandfather] William Ker 2nd Earl Roxburghe (age 52) died. 02 Jul 1675 His son [his father] Robert Ker 3rd Earl Roxburghe (age 17) succeeded 3rd Earl Roxburghe.
On 10 Oct 1675 [his father] Robert Ker 3rd Earl Roxburghe (age 17) and [his mother] Margaret Hay Countess Roxburghe were married. She by marriage Countess Roxburghe. She the daughter of John Hay 1st Marquess Teviotdale (age 50) and Jean Scott Marchioness Teviotdale. He the son of William Ker 2nd Earl Roxburghe and Jane Ker Countess Roxburgh. They were second cousin once removed.
On 30 Apr 1680 John Ker 1st Duke Roxburghe was born to Robert Ker 3rd Earl Roxburghe (age 22) and Margaret Hay Countess Roxburghe.
On 06 May 1682 The Gloucester sank during a strong gale when it struck a sandbank twenty-eight miles off Great Yarmouth, Norfolk [Map] on a journey from Portsmouth to Edinburgh. Of the estimated 330 people on board it is believed between 130 and 250 sailors and passengers perished.
The Duke of York (age 48) [the future King James II] and John Churchill 1st Duke Marlborough (age 31) were rescued in the ship's boat.
[his father] Robert Ker 3rd Earl Roxburghe (age 24) drowned. His son [his brother] Robert Ker 4th Earl Roxburghe (age 5) succeeded 4th Earl Roxburghe.
John Hope of Hopetoun drowned. He gave up his seat in a lifeboat to the future King James II of England Scotland and Ireland (age 48) for which his son was rewarded with an Earldom twenty-one years later when he came of age.
Richard Hill drowned.
The pilot James Ayres was blamed for the disaster. The Duke of York (age 48) wished him to be hanged immediately. He was court-martialled and imprisoned.
On 02 Apr 1695 William Savile 2nd Marquess Halifax (age 30) and [his future wife] Mary Finch Duchess Roxburghe (age 18) were married. She by marriage Marchioness Halifax. She the daughter of Daniel Finch 2nd Earl Nottingham 7th Earl Winchilsea (age 47) and Essex Rich 2nd Countess Nottingham. He the son of George Savile 1st Marquess Halifax (age 61) and Dorothy Spencer Lady Savile. They were fourth cousins.
In 1696 [his brother] Robert Ker 4th Earl Roxburghe (age 19) died unmarried. His brother John Ker 1st Duke Roxburghe (age 15) succeeded 5th Earl Roxburghe.
In 1703 Roger Mostyn (age 29) and [his future sister-in-law] Essex Finch (age 15) were married. She the daughter of Daniel Finch 2nd Earl Nottingham 7th Earl Winchilsea (age 55) and Anne Hatton Countess Nottingham and Winchelsea.
In 1707 John Ker 1st Duke Roxburghe (age 26) was created 1st Duke Roxburghe.
Before 1709 John Ker 1st Duke Roxburghe (age 28) and Mary Finch Duchess Roxburghe (age 31) were married. She by marriage Duchess Roxburghe. She the daughter of Daniel Finch 2nd Earl Nottingham 7th Earl Winchilsea (age 61) and Essex Rich 2nd Countess Nottingham. He the son of Robert Ker 3rd Earl Roxburghe and Margaret Hay Countess Roxburghe.
Around 1709 [his son] Robert Ker 2nd Duke Roxburghe was born to John Ker 1st Duke Roxburghe (age 28) and [his wife] Mary Finch Duchess Roxburghe (age 32).
On 21 Mar 1720 Richard Boyle 3rd Earl Burlington (age 25) and [his step-daughter] Dorothy Savile Countess Burlington (age 21) were married. She by marriage Countess Burlington. She the daughter of William Savile 2nd Marquess Halifax and Mary Finch Duchess Roxburghe (age 43). He the son of Charles Boyle 2nd Earl Burlington and Juliana Noel Countess Burlington (age 48).
On 23 May 1721 [his sister-in-law] Essex Finch (age 34) died of smallpox.
In 1722 John Ker 1st Duke Roxburghe (age 41) was appointed 541st Knight of the Garter by King George I of Great Britain and Ireland (age 61)..
On 16 Jun 1739 [his son] Robert Ker 2nd Duke Roxburghe (age 30) and [his daughter-in-law] Essex Mostyn Duchess Roxburghe were married. He the son of John Ker 1st Duke Roxburghe (age 59) and Mary Finch Duchess Roxburghe (age 62). They were half first cousins.
On 27 Feb 1741 John Ker 1st Duke Roxburghe (age 60) died. His son [his son] Robert Ker 2nd Duke Roxburghe (age 32) succeeded 2nd Duke Roxburghe. [his daughter-in-law] Essex Mostyn Duchess Roxburghe by marriage Duchess Roxburghe.
