Sculpture at St James Church at Warter, North Yorkshire
St James Church is something of a pilgrimage for lovers of New Sculpture with Sir George Frampton's Memorial to Charles Henry Wilson (four images) and his marble effigy of Lady Isobel Wilson (2 images) inside, as well as two Gilbert Bayes bronzes in the churchyard. Further, the stained glass windows by Robert Anning-Bell provide wonderful light with which to photograph.
Sir George Frampton
Was a notable British sculptor and leading member of the New Sculpture movement. Father of Meredith Frampton whose work A Game of Patience can be seen at the wonderful Ferens Gallery in Hull.
Sir George Frampton's Memorial to Charles Henry Wilson
Having gone to see the Baye's in the churchyard the quality of the Memorial to Charles Henry Wilson was unexpected. It has a quality that draws you in as each time the light changes.

Lady Isabel Wilson, neƩ, daughter of the 7th Duke of Roxburge, shipping magnate, married Guy Greville Wilson on the 23rd June 1904. She died in childbirth in 1905 aged 26.
The majority of the photographs in the Scultpture Gallery are of sculptures exhibited at Sotheby's annual selling exhibition at Chatsworth: Beyond Limits. Now in its fifth year it always includes an eclectic mix of old and new.
Some of these photographs are personal favourites of mine. A number are framed and hang at home. Where possible I've included information about the sculpture. For further information please contact me: chris.smith@twentytrees.co.uk.
