Edward Montagu 1st Baron Montagu was born to William Montagu 2nd Baron Montagu and Elizabeth Montfort Baroness Furnivall Baroness Montagu.

In or before 1301 [his father] William Montagu 2nd Baron Montagu (age 26) and [his mother] Elizabeth Montfort Baroness Furnivall Baroness Montagu (age 25) were married.

In 1316 [his grandfather] Simon Montagu 1st Baron Montagu (age 66) died. His son [his father] William Montagu 2nd Baron Montagu (age 41) succeeded 2nd Baron Montagu. [his mother] Elizabeth Montfort Baroness Furnivall Baroness Montagu (age 41) by marriage Baroness Montagu.

On 18 Oct 1319 [his father] William Montagu 2nd Baron Montagu (age 44) died at Gascony [Map]. His son [his brother] William Montagu 1st Earl Salisbury (age 18) succeeded 3rd Baron Montagu.

Before 08 Jun 1322 Thomas Furnival 1st Baron Furnivall (age 62) and [his mother] Elizabeth Montfort Baroness Furnivall Baroness Montagu (age 47) were married. She by marriage Baroness Furnivall.

Before 29 Aug 1338 Edward Montagu 1st Baron Montagu and Alice Plantagenet (age 14) were married. She the daughter of Thomas of Brotherton 1st Earl Norfolk (deceased) and Alice Hales Countess Norfolk. She a granddaughter of King Edward "Longshanks" I of England.

Around 1344 [his daughter] Elizabeth Montagu Countess Suffolk was born to Edward Montagu 1st Baron Montagu and [his wife] Alice Plantagenet (age 20). She a great granddaughter of King Edward "Longshanks" I of England.

In Aug 1345 [his mother] Elizabeth Montfort Baroness Furnivall Baroness Montagu (age 70) died. She was buried at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford [Map].

Battle of Crécy

                    On 26 Aug 1346 the army of King Edward III of England (age 33) defeated the French army at the Battle of Crécy.                     The French army suffered significant casualties. King Philip "Fortunate" VI of France (age 52) was wounded. William de Coucy (age 60) and his son Enguerrand 6th Lord de Coucy (age 33) and were killed.                

                    Charles Valois Count Alençon (age 49) was killed. His son Charles Valois Archbishop Lyons (age 9) succeeded Count Alençon.                

                    Louis Chatillon II Count Blois I Count Chatillon was killed. His son Louis Chatillon III Count Blois Count Soissons succeeded III Count Blois.
                
                    Louis Dampierre II Count Nevers I Count Flanders (age 42) was killed. His son Louis Dampierre III Count Nevers II Count Flanders (age 15) succeeded III Count Nevers, II Count Flanders.                

                    King John I of Bohemia (age 50) was killed. His son Charles IV King Bohemia Holy Roman Emperor Luxemburg (age 30) succeeded IV King Bohemia.                

                    Rudolph "Valiant" Metz I Duke Lorraine (age 26) was killed. His son John Metz I Duke Lorraine succeeded I Duke Lorraine.

On 20 Nov 1348 Edward Montagu 1st Baron Montagu was created 1st Baron Montagu by writ of summons.

On 02 Feb 1349 [his daughter] Joan Montagu Countess Suffolk was born to Edward Montagu 1st Baron Montagu and [his wife] Alice Plantagenet (age 25). She a great granddaughter of King Edward "Longshanks" I of England.

After 1352 Edward Montagu 1st Baron Montagu and Joan Unknown were married.

Before 30 Jan 1352 [his wife] Alice Plantagenet (age 28) died at Bungay, Suffolk. She had been assaulted by her husband Edward Montagu 1st Baron Montagu for which he was indicted.

Before Feb 1359 [his son] Edward Montagu died.

Before Feb 1359 [his daughter] Audrey Montagu died.

Before 1361 [his son-in-law] William Ufford 2nd Earl Suffolk (age 22) and [his daughter] Joan Montagu Countess Suffolk (age 11) were married. It appears he may later have married her sister [his daughter] Elizabeth Montagu Countess Suffolk (age 16) although there is some uncertainty; an example of Married to Two Siblings. And it true, an example of a brother marrying two sisters, and one of those sisters, Elizabeth Montagu Countess Suffolk (age 16), marrying two brothers? He the son of Robert Ufford 1st Earl Suffolk (age 62) and Margaret Norwich Countess Suffolk (age 74). She a great granddaughter of King Edward "Longshanks" I of England.

Before 1361 [his son-in-law] Walter Ufford (age 17) and [his daughter] Elizabeth Montagu Countess Suffolk (age 16) were married. She would later marry his brother [his son-in-law] William Ufford 2nd Earl Suffolk (age 22); an example of Married to Two Siblings. He the son of Robert Ufford 1st Earl Suffolk (age 62) and Margaret Norwich Countess Suffolk (age 74). She a great granddaughter of King Edward "Longshanks" I of England.
