On 28 Apr 1627 Robert Douglas 8th Earl Morton (age 11) and Elizabeth Villiers Countess Morton (age 18) were married. He the son of William Douglas 7th Earl Morton (age 45) and Anne Keith Countess Morton.

Baptism of Henrietta Maria

On 21 Jul 1644 Princess Henrietta Stewart Duchess Orléans was baptised at Exeter Cathedral [Map]. John Berkeley 1st Baron Berkeley (age 42) attended. Elizabeth Villiers Countess Morton (age 35) was her godmother in whose care she was left.

Siege of Exeter

In Apr 1646 Exeter, Devon [Map] was besieged by Parliamentary forces. Elizabeth Villiers Countess Morton (age 37) with the infant Princess Henrietta Stewart Duchess Orléans (age 1) escaped incognito to France.

Daubigny Turberville (age 34) fought for the King. He and a friend ran in debt £100 each, "in chalk behind the door; he told me that his landlord came into their chamber, leading his daughter by the hand, and courteously proffered to cancel the debts of either of us who should marry her." Turberville "valiantly resisted this temptation and chose rather to pay his debts in ready money, which he did shortly after; the other accepted the terms, and had his wife's portion presently paid him, viz., his scores wiped out with a wet dishclout." On 12 Nov 1649 [her husband] Robert Douglas 8th Earl Morton (age 33) died at Kirkwall. His son [her son] William Douglas 9th Earl Morton succeeded 9th Earl Morton.

Took leave of my Lord Stanhope (age 16), going on his journey toward Italy; also visited my Lord Hatton (age 45), Comptroller of his Majesty's Household, the Countess of Morton (age 41), Governess to the Lady Henrietta (age 6), and Mrs. Gardner (age 23), one of the Queen's maids of honor.

Before 15 Dec 1654 Elizabeth Villiers Countess Morton (age 45) died.
