Around 16 Mar 1450 [his son] John Neville died.
On 08 Oct 1453, the council wrote to the earl of Westmorland (age 47) and congratulated him on not assisting the Middleham branch. It also wrote again to [his uncle] Salisbury (age 53) and [his former brother-in-law] Northumberland (age 60)
In retaliation, Sir John Neville raided the absent Earl of Northumberland's (age 60) house at Catton, in Yorkshire, and all but ruined it. The next day, Richard Percy attacked a house on Neville property.
On 22 May 1455 the Wars of the Roses commenced with the First Battle of St Albans. Richard Cotton of Hampstall Ridware (age 51) and his son William Cotton of Connington in Huntingdonshire (age 27) were killed.
In 1460 [his former step-son] Henry Clifford (age 44) died.
In 1461 [his brother-in-law] John Clifford (age 36) died.
On 18 May 1464 [his former step-daughter] Mary Clifford Baroness Despencer (age 42) died.
On 03 Nov 1484 Ralph Neville 2nd Earl of Westmoreland (age 78) died. He was buried at St Brandon's Church, Brancepeth. His nephew Ralph Neville 3rd Earl of Westmoreland (age 28) succeeded 3rd Earl of Westmoreland.

He was the son of John Nevill (who died in the lifetime of his father, Ralph, first Earl of Westmorland), by Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas Holland, Earl of Kent.
