The Itinerary of Archbishop Baldwin through Wales: Book 1 Chapter 12. In the province of Penbroch, another instance occurred, about the same time, of a spirit's appearing in the house of Elidore de Stakepole,107 not only sensibly, but visibly, under the form of a red-haired young man, who called himself Simon. First seizing the keys from the person to whom they were entrusted, he impudently assumed the steward's office, which he managed so prudently and providently, that all things seemed to abound under his care, and there was no deficiency in the house. Whatever the master or mistress secretly thought of having for their daily use or provision, he procured with wonderful agility, and without any previous directions, saying, "You wished that to be done, and it shall be done for you." He was also well acquainted with their treasures and secret hoards, and sometimes upbraided them on that account; for as often as they seemed to act sparingly and avariciously, he used to say, "Why are you afraid to spend that heap of gold or silver, since your lives are of so short duration, and the money you so cautiously hoard up will never do you any service?" He gave the choicest meat and drink to the rustics and hired servants, saying that "Those persons should be abundantly supplied, by whose labours they were acquired." Whatever he determined should be done, whether pleasing or displeasing to his master or mistress (for, as we have said before, he knew all their secrets), he completed in his usual expeditious manner, without their consent. He never went to church, or uttered one Catholic word. He did not sleep in the house, but was ready at his office in the morning.
Note 107. There are two churches in Pembrokeshire called Stackpoole, one of which, called Stackpoole Elidor [Map], derived its name probably from the Elidore de Stakepole mentioned in this chapter by Giraldus. It contains several ancient monuments, and amongst them the effigies of a cross-legged knight, which has been for many years attributed to the aforesaid Elidore.

In 1672 John Lort 2nd Baronet died. His son Gilbert Lord 3rd Baronet (age 2) succeeded 3rd Baronet Lort of Stackpole in Pembrokeshire.
In 1647 Hester Annesley (age 33) died. Monument in St Elidor's Church Stackpole [Map].
John Lort 2nd Baronet:
he was born to Roger Lort 1st Baronet and Hester Annesley.
Before 1650 he and Susan Holles were married. She the daughter of John Holles 2nd Earl de Clare and Elizabeth Vere Countess Clare.
In 1664 Roger Lort 1st Baronet died. He was buried at St Petrox Church. His son John Lort 2nd Baronet succeeded 2nd Baronet Lort of Stackpole in Pembrokeshire.
Gilbert Lord 3rd Baronet: Around 1670 he was born to John Lort 2nd Baronet and Susan Holles. In 1698 he died without issue. Baronet Lort of Stackpole in Pembrokeshire extinct. His sister Elizabeth Lort and her husband Alexander Campbell 16th Thane of Cawdor inherited the estate in Stackpole.
Hester Annesley: On 03 Apr 1613 she was born to Francis Annesley 1st Viscount Valentia and Dorothy Philipps Viscountess Valentia. On or after 03 May 1632 Roger Lort 1st Baronet and she were married by a license dated 03 May 1632.
On 12 Aug 1858 Rear Admiral George Pryse Campbell (age 65) died. Monument in St Elidor's Church Stackpole [Map] dedicated by his widow Charlotte Gascoyne (age 60).
Rear Admiral George Pryse Campbell: In 1793 he was born to John Campbell 1st Baron Cawdor and Isabella Caroline Howard Baroness Cawdor. On 13 Oct 1821 Rear Admiral George Pryse Campbell and Charlotte Gascoyne were married.
Charlotte Gascoyne: On 16 Oct 1797 she was born to General Isaac Gascoyne. On 14 Oct 1873 she died.
On 07 Nov 1860 John Campbell 1st Earl Cawdor (age 69) died. His son John Frederick Vaughan Campbell 2nd Earl Cawdor (age 43) succeeded 2nd Earl Cawdor of Castlemartin in Pembrokeshire. Sarah Mary Compton Cavendish Countess Cawdor (age 47) by marriage Countess Cawdor of Castlemartin in Pembrokeshire. Monument in St Elidor's Church Stackpole [Map] sculpted by James Forsyth (age 32).
John Campbell 1st Earl Cawdor:
On 08 Nov 1790 he was born to John Campbell 1st Baron Cawdor and Isabella Caroline Howard Baroness Cawdor.
On 05 Sep 1816 John Campbell 1st Earl Cawdor and Elizabeth Thynne Countess Cawdor were married. She the daughter of Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath and Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath.
On 01 Jun 1821 John Campbell 1st Baron Cawdor died at Bath, Somerset. He was buried at Bath Abbey. His son John Campbell 1st Earl Cawdor succeeded 2nd Baron Cawdor of Castlemartin in Pembrokeshire. Elizabeth Thynne Countess Cawdor by marriage Baroness Cawdor of Castlemartin in Pembrokeshire.
In 1827 John Campbell 1st Earl Cawdor was created 1st Earl Cawdor of Castlemartin in Pembrokeshire. Elizabeth Thynne Countess Cawdor by marriage Countess Cawdor of Castlemartin in Pembrokeshire.
John Frederick Vaughan Campbell 2nd Earl Cawdor:
On 11 Jun 1817 he was born to John Campbell 1st Earl Cawdor and Elizabeth Thynne Countess Cawdor.
In 1841 John Frederick Vaughan Campbell 2nd Earl Cawdor was elected MP Pembrokeshire.
On 28 Jun 1842 John Frederick Vaughan Campbell 2nd Earl Cawdor and Sarah Mary Compton Cavendish Countess Cawdor were married. He the son of John Campbell 1st Earl Cawdor and Elizabeth Thynne Countess Cawdor.
On 29 Mar 1898 John Frederick Vaughan Campbell 2nd Earl Cawdor died. His son Frederick Archibald Vaughan Campbell 3rd Earl Cawdor succeeded 3rd Earl Cawdor of Castlemartin in Pembrokeshire. Edith Georgiana Turnor Countess Cawdor by marriage Countess Cawdor of Castlemartin in Pembrokeshire.
Sarah Mary Compton Cavendish Countess Cawdor:
On 27 Aug 1813 she was born to Henry Frederick Compton Cavendish and Sarah Fawkener.
On 21 Apr 1881 Sarah Mary Compton Cavendish Countess Cawdor died.
On 28 Mar 1879 Captain Ronald George Elidor Campbell (age 30) was killed in action in the Zulu Wars at Zlobani Mountain. Monument in St Elidor's Church Stackpole [Map]. His two colleagues took the Zulu position and were both awarded VCs. Colonel Evelyn Wood stated that if he had survived Campbell would also have been recommended for the VC. He died “in the performance of a most gallant act. He was buried where he fell by his comrades under the fire of the enemy” according to the citation. His wife later visited his gravestone which is on the battlefield.
Captain Ronald George Elidor Campbell: In 1867 Ronald Campbell was commissioned in the Coldstream Guards in 1867, promoted Captain in 1871, becoming Adjutant 1st Battalion 1871-78. Before 28 Mar 1879 Captain Ronald George Elidor Campbell applied for special service in South Africa he served in the Anglo-Zulu Wars (1879-96) as Staff Officer to Col. Sir Evelyn Wood.
