Biography of David Niven 1910-1983

On 01 Mar 1910 David Niven was born.

Around 1928 Margaret Whigham (age 15) underwent an abortion having become pregnant following a liason with David Niven (age 17) whilst on holiday at Bembridge, Isle of Wight.

On 16 Sep 1940 David Niven (age 30) and Primula Susan Rollo (age 22) were married.

On 21 May 1946 [his wife] Primula Susan Rollo (age 28) died. She fractured her skull in a fall in the Beverly Hills, California home of Tyrone Power, while playing a game of sardines. She had walked through a door believing it to be a closet, but instead, it led to a stone staircase to the basement.

In Jan 1948 David Niven (age 37) and Hjördis Paulina Genberg (age 28) were married.

On 29 Jul 1983 David Niven (age 73) died at his chalet at Château-d'Oex, District de la Riviera-Pays-d'Enhaut.

On 02 Aug 1983 David Niven (deceased) was buried in a private ceremony at a Church of St Peter, Château-d'Oex. Yehudi Menuhin and seven of his students played the violin. Prince Rainier of Monaco comforted the British actor's widow [his former wife] Hjördis Paulina Genberg (age 63). Niven's Scottish pastor friend Arnot Morrison conducted the funeral service. The British ambassador to Switzerland, John Powell-Jones, represented the British government at the funeral.

On 22 Oct 1983 a Memorial Service was held for David Niven at St Martin in the Fields [Map]. The servie was attended by Margaret Whigham (age 70), Richard Attenborough, Michael Caine, Jon Pertwee, Anthony Quayle, Sir John Mills, Shirley Anne Field and John Mortimer.

On 24 Dec 1997 [his former wife] Hjördis Paulina Genberg (age 78) died at Céligny, Geneva.
