Biography of Francis Smallman 1565-1633

Around 1565 Francis Smallman was born to William Smallman of Ivington Bury, Herefordshire and Elizabeth Hopton.

In 1609 [his father] William Smallman of Ivington Bury, Herefordshire died.

In 1614 Francis Smallman (age 49) was appointed High Sheriff of Herefordshire.

Before 1615 Francis Smallman (age 50) and Susan Stockmede (age 49) were married.

Around 1615 [his son] William Smallman of Kinnersley Castle was born to Francis Smallman (age 50) and [his wife] Susan Stockmede (age 50).

In or before 1617 Francis Smallman (age 52) purchased Kinnersley Castle, Herefordshire [Map] from the son of Roger Vaughan.

In 1621 Francis Smallman (age 56) was elected MP Leominster.

On 29 Sep 1631 [his son] William Smallman of Kinnersley Castle (age 16) and [his daughter-in-law] Lucy Whitney were married at St Giles without Cripplegate Church [Map]. They had two daughters.

On 11 Aug 1632 [his wife] Susan Stockmede (age 67) died.

After 1633. Monument at St James' Church, Kinnersley [Map] to Francis Smallman (age 68) and his wife [his former wife] Susan Stockmede commissioned by their son [his son] William Smallman of Kinnersley Castle (age 18).

Susan Stockmede: Around 1565 she was born. Before 1615 Francis Smallman and she were married. On 11 Aug 1632 she died.

William Smallman of Kinnersley Castle: Around 1615 he was born to Francis Smallman and Susan Stockmede. On 29 Sep 1631 he and Lucy Whitney were married at St Giles without Cripplegate Church. They had two daughters. On 07 Sep 1633 Francis Smallman died. He was buried at St James' Church, Kinnersley on 09 Sep 1633. He had made his will on 20 Jul 1633 leaving his only daughter a portion of £1,000. His son William Smallman of Kinnersley Castle inherited Kinnersley Castle, Herefordshire. In 1643 he died. Lucy Smallman and her husband James Pytts inherited Kinnersley Castle, Herefordshire.

On 07 Sep 1633 Francis Smallman (age 68) died. He was buried at St James' Church, Kinnersley [Map] on 09 Sep 1633. He had made his will on 20 Jul 1633 leaving his only daughter a portion of £1,000. His son [his son] William Smallman of Kinnersley Castle (age 18) inherited Kinnersley Castle, Herefordshire [Map].
