Biography of Richard Young 1st Baronet 1580-1651
Around 1580 Richard Young 1st Baronet was born.
Before 29 Sep 1617 Thomas Hayes (age 69) and [his future wife] Martha Forth were married.
On 22 Jan 1618 Richard Young 1st Baronet (age 38) and Martha Forth were married. Lady Martha, brought with her a substantial estate - Young was later reputed to be worth £1,000 p.a., - and six months later she also transferred to him £2,000 worth of stock in the East India Company.
On 13 May 1619 Anne of Denmark Queen Consort Scotland England and Ireland was buried in the north eastern area Henry VII Chapel in Westminster Abbey [Map].
The principal mourner was Alethea Talbot Countess Arundel, Surrey and Norfolk (age 34).
Anne Carey (age 27) and Mary Woodhouse walked in the procession.
As Keeper of the Wardrobe Lionel Cranfield 1st Earl Middlesex (age 44) supervised the spending of £20,000 on the funeral.
Richard Young 1st Baronet (age 39) carried the banner roll.
Her grave has the inscription: "ANNE OF DENMARK QUEEN OF KING JAMES 1st 1619". her coffin has the inscription: "Here lies buried the Most Serene Queen Anne, consort of James, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, daughter of Frederick II, King of Denmark and Norway and of the Vandals and Goths, sister of Christian IV and mother of many Princes. She died at Hampton Court, in the year of salvation 1618, on the 4th March, aged 43 years, 4 months and 18 days."
Autobiography Simon D'Ewes. 09 Jan 1622. The beginning of January, bringing with it the end of the festival days, I spent in discourses, visits, and such like recreations. Upon Wednesday, the 9th day of January, came out a proclamation for the abortive dissolving of the Parliament, which gave a tincture of sadness to most men's countenances, their hope of the delivery of Clod's Church in Germany being thereby quite dashed, and the poor distressed Protestants of France left to the execution of their merciless enemies. And it fell out very strangely the next day, that the King riding or hunting at Theobald's, was cast headlong from his horse into a pond, and narrowly escaped drowning1.
Note 1. "On Wednesday his Majesty rode by coach to Theobald's to dinner, not intending, as the speech is, to return till towards Easter. After dinner, riding on horseback abroad, his hone stumbled, and catt his Majesty into the New River, where the ice brake; he fell in so that nothing but his boots were seen. Sir Richard Young (age 42) was next, who alighted, went into the water, and lifted him out. There came much water out of his mouth and body. His Majesty rode back to Theobald's, went into a warm bed, and, as we hear, is well, which God continue," - Harl. MSS. This is also quoted by Sir Henry Ellis.
On 10 Mar 1628 Richard Young 1st Baronet (age 48) was created 1st Baronet Young of London.
In 1651 Richard Young 1st Baronet (age 71) died. Baronet Young of London extinct.
