On 05 Jul 1714 Robert Shirley (age 21) died of smallpox. Monument in Holy Trinity Church Staunton Harold, Leicestershire [Map]. Elbow Reclining Figure. Powdered Wig. Heeled Shoes. Possibly by John Michael Rysbrack (age 20).
Robert Shirley: On 28 Dec 1692 he was born to Robert Shirley and Anne Ferrers.
1720. Church of St Rumbold, Stoke Doyle [Map]. Monument to Edward Ward sculpted by John Michael Rysbrack (age 25) in 1720 and was erected in 1725 during the rebuilding of the church. Elbow Reclining Figure in Judges's Robes. Ionic columns with Pediment. Arms at top being Ward impaled with his wife's Elizabeth Papillon (age 61); her arms having three butterflies being a pun on her surname Papillon. Powdered Wig. Heeled Shoes. Buckled Shoes.
Edward Ward: In or before 1714 he and Elizabeth Papillon were married. The difference in their ages was 20 years. In 1638 he was born to William Ward of Preston in Rutlandshire. On 14 Jul 1714 he died at his house at Essex Street.
Elizabeth Papillon: On 27 Jul 1658 she was born to Thomas Papillon Merchant and Jane Broadnax.
On 28 Mar 1727 Isaac Newton (deceased) was buried in Scientist's Corner, Westminster Abbey [Map]; the first scientist to be buried there. The service was performed by the Bishop of Rochester (age 74).
Before the funeral his body lay in state in the Jerusalem Chamber, Cheyneygates, Westminster Abbey [Map]. His coffin was followed by most of the Fellows of the Royal Society.
The Pall Bearers were the Lord Chancellor Peter King 1st Baron King (age 58), James Graham 1st Duke Montrose (age 44), Robert Ker 2nd Duke Roxburghe (age 18), Thomas Herbert 8th Earl Pembroke 5th Earl Montgomery (age 71), Talbot Yelverton 1st Earl of Sussex (age 36) and Thomas Parker 1st Earl Macclesfield (age 60).
The Chief Mourner was Michael Newton 4th Baronet (age 32); his third cousin.
Voltaire observed, "He was buried like a king who had done well by his subjects.".
He was buried at Scientist's Corner, Westminster Abbey [Map]; the first scientist to be buried theren 28 Mar 1727. The inscription on his John Michael Rysbrack (age 32) monument reads "Here is buried Isaac Newton, Knight, who by a strength of mind almost divine, and mathematical principles peculiarly his own, explored the course and figures of the planets, the paths of comets, the tides of the sea, the dissimilarities in rays of light, and, what no other scholar has previously imagined, the properties of the colours thus produced. Diligent, sagacious and faithful, in his expositions of nature, antiquity and the holy Scriptures, he vindicated by his philosophy the majesty of God mighty and good, and expressed the simplicity of the Gospel in his manners. Mortals rejoice that there has existed such and so great an ornament of the human race! He was born on 25th December 1642, and died on 20th March 1726."

On 25 Jan 1733 Gilbert Heathcote 1st Baronet (age 81) died. His son John Heathcote 2nd Baronet (age 44) succeeded 2nd Baronet Heathcote of London. Monument in St Mary's Church, Edith Weston, Rutlandshire [Map]. Sculpted by John Michael Rysbrack (age 38).
Gilbert Heathcote 1st Baronet: On 02 Jan 1652 he was born to Gilbert Heathcote and Ann Dickens at Chesterfield. In 1711 Gilbert Heathcote 1st Baronet was elected Lord Mayor of London. On 17 Jan 1733 Gilbert Heathcote 1st Baronet was created 1st Baronet Heathcote of London.
John Heathcote 2nd Baronet: In 1689 he was born to Gilbert Heathcote 1st Baronet. In 1720 John Heathcote 2nd Baronet and Bridget White Lady Heathcote were married. She by marriage Lady Heathcote of London. On 09 Feb 1733 he was appointed MP Bodmin.
On 12 Feb 1734 John Newton 3rd Baronet (age 83) died. He was buried at St Michael's Church, Heydour [Map]; his monument sculpted by John Michael Rysbrack (age 39). His son Michael Newton 4th Baronet (age 39) succeeded 4th Baronet Newton of Barrs Court. Margaret Coningsby 2nd Countess Coningsby (age 25) by marriage Lady Newton of Barrs Court.
John Newton 3rd Baronet:
Around 1651 he was born to John Newton 2nd Baronet and Mary Eyre.
Before 09 Jun 1680 he and Abigail Heveningham were married.
On 23 Jan 1691 he and Susanna Wharton Lady Newton were married.
On 31 Aug 1699 John Newton 2nd Baronet died. His son John Newton 3rd Baronet succeeded 3rd Baronet Newton of Barrs Court. Susanna Wharton Lady Newton by marriage Lady Newton of Barrs Court.

On 24 Nov 1745 Thomas Wyndham 1st Baron Wyndham (age 63) died unmarried. Baron Wyndham of Finglass extinct. Monument at Salisbury Cathedral [Map] sculpted by John Michael Rysbrack (age 51).
Against a broad obelisk, Hibernia weeps, holding a rod and draped harp. By an urn, the purse for the Great Seal of Ireland.
Thomas Wyndham 1st Baron Wyndham: On 27 Dec 1681 he was born to Colonel John Wyndham and Alice Fownes. In 1724 he was appointed Chief Justice of the Common Pleas. In 1726 he was appointed Lord Chancellor of Ireland. In 1731 Thomas Wyndham 1st Baron Wyndham was created 1st Baron Wyndham of Finglass.
After 13 Nov 1746. Hasting's Chapel St Helen's Church Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire [Map]. Monument to Theophilus Hastings 9th Earl Huntingdon (deceased). The bust in the roundel of his wife Selina Shirley Countess Huntingdon (age 39) sculpted by John Michael Rysbrack (age 52). The monument was designed by William Kent. The obelisk sculpted by Joseph Pickford. The epitaph was written by Henry St John 1st Viscount Bolingbroke (age 68).

1755. Monument [Map] to Watkin Williams-Wynn 3rd Baronet.
His widow Lady Frances (age 34) chose Michael Rysbrack (age 60) to erect her husband's monument in the classical style. The Agreement was made on the 21 March 1750 and cost £485. The long Latin inscription was composed by William King (age 69), principal of St Mary's Hall, Oxford.
The size of the monument created a problem. A Faculty was granted to Lady Frances (age 34), in 1753, to add a chapel at the south east end of the church, adjacent to the chancel "… to make erect and build a handsome convenient Isle or building… in order to erect monuments seats and pews therein and making a burying vault underneath the same or otherwise to apply the same to Godly purposes" .The work was carried out in 1755.
Frances Shackerley Lady Williams-Wynn: In 1721 she was born to George Shackerley of Hulme and Anne Bagot. In Jul 1748 Watkin Williams-Wynn 3rd Baronet and she were married. She was his god-daughter. The difference in their ages was 29 years. In 1803 she died.
William King: On 16 Mar 1685 he was born to Reverend Peregrine King and Margaret Smyth. On 30 Dec 1763 he died.

Caroline Cavendish Countess Bessborough: In May 1719 she was born to William Cavendish 3rd Duke Devonshire and Catherine Hoskyns Duchess Devonshire. On 05 Jul 1739 William Ponsonby 2nd Earl Bessborough and she were married. His younger brother John Ponsonby would marry her younger sister Elizabeth Cavendish four years later. She the daughter of William Cavendish 3rd Duke Devonshire and Catherine Hoskyns Duchess Devonshire. He the son of Brabazon Ponsonby 1st Earl Bessborough and Sarah Margetson. In 1743 John Ponsonby and Elizabeth Cavendish were married. His elder brother William Ponsonby 2nd Earl Bessborough had married her elder sister Caroline Cavendish Countess Bessborough four years before. She the daughter of William Cavendish 3rd Duke Devonshire and Catherine Hoskyns Duchess Devonshire. He the son of Brabazon Ponsonby 1st Earl Bessborough and Sarah Margetson. On 04 Jul 1758 Brabazon Ponsonby 1st Earl Bessborough died. His son William Ponsonby 2nd Earl Bessborough succeeded 2nd Earl Bessborough. She by marriage Countess Bessborough.
After 31 Mar 1761. Monument to John Palmer (deceased) at Church of St Mary Magdalene, Ecton [Map] sculpted by H Cox. Bust by John Michael Rysbrack (age 66).
John Palmer: Around 1695 he was born to Thomas Palmer. On 31 Mar 1761 he died.
On 12 Jun 1761 Margaret Coningsby 2nd Countess Coningsby (age 52) died. Earl Coningsbury extinct. She was buried at St Michael's Church, Heydour [Map]. Monument sculpted by John Michael Rysbrack (age 66).

On 08 Jan 1770 John Michael Rysbrack (age 75) died in Vere Street Marylebone [Map].
St Mary Magalene's Church Stapleford, Leicestershire [Map]. Most of the memorials were moved from the earlier church. The oldest, dated 1490, is a brass to Geoffrey Sherard and his wife. There is a black and white marble tomb chest dated 1640. The chest bears two life-size reclining effigies and is carved with images of eleven children. There are a number of busts of members of the Sherard family. The finest memorial is that of the 1st Earl by John Michael Rysbrack. It is dated 1732 and consists of a seated woman with a child, and a half-reclining man, all in Roman clothing. There is also a memorial tablet and a hatchment to the 6th Earl, dated 1859.
