Biography of Adam Duncan 1st Viscount Duncan 1731-1804

On 21 Mar 1785 [his son] Robert Haldane-Duncan 1st Earl of Camperdown was born to Adam Duncan 1st Viscount Duncan (age 53) and [his wife] Henrietta Dundas.

Battle of Camperdown

On 11 Oct 1797 Adam Duncan 1st Viscount Duncan (age 66) was victorious at the Battle of Camperdown. A complete victory for the British, who captured eleven Dutch ships without losing any of their own.

On 21 Oct 1797 Adam Duncan 1st Viscount Duncan (age 66) was created 1st Viscount Duncan of Camperdowne in recognition of his victory at the Battle of Camperdown.

After 21 Oct 1797 Adam Duncan 1st Viscount Duncan (age 66) was awarded the Large Naval Gold Medal and an annual pension of £3,000, to himself and the next two heirs to his title - the biggest pension ever awarded by the British government.

On 04 Aug 1804 Adam Duncan 1st Viscount Duncan (age 73) died suddenty at an inn Cornhill on Tweed [Map] on his way to Edinburgh [Map]. His son Robert Haldane-Duncan (age 19) succeeded 2nd Viscount Duncan of Camperdowne.
