On 10 May 1481 [his grandfather] John Wingfield (age 53) died.

In or before 1487 Anthony Wingfield was born to John Wingfield and Anne Tuchet (age 31).

Before 1488 [his father] John Wingfield and [his mother] Anne Tuchet (age 32) were married. They were fourth cousins. He a great x 5 grandson of King Edward I of England.

On 07 May 1498 [his grandmother] Anne Echingham Baroness Audley Heighley (age 78) died.

On 22 Dec 1500 [his grandmother] Elizabeth Fitzlewis (age 69) died in Letheringham, Suffolk.

Funeral of Henry VII

On 11 May 1509 King Henry VII of England and Ireland (deceased) was buried in the King Henry VII Chapel, Westminster Abbey [Map]. Henry Willoughby (age 58) and Anthony Wingfield (age 22) attended. The ladies given mantelets and kerchiefs were as follows:

Battle of the Spurs

On 16 Aug 1513 Henry VIII (age 22) fought at Thérouanne [Map] during the Battle of the Spurs.

Henry's army included George Talbot 4th Earl of Shrewsbury (age 45) (commanded), Thomas Grey 2nd Marquess Dorset (age 36), Thomas Brooke 8th Baron Cobham (age 43), Henry Bourchier 2nd Earl Essex 3rd Count of Eu, John de Vere 15th Earl of Oxford (age 42) and Anthony Wingfield (age 26). John "Tilbury Jack" Arundell (age 18), William Compton (age 31), John Hussey 1st Baron Hussey of Sleaford (age 48) and William Hussey (age 41) was knighted by King Henry VII of England and Ireland. Thomas West 8th Baron De La Warr 5th Baron West (age 56) and Andrew Windsor 1st Baron Windsor (age 46) was created Knight Banneret.

Louis I d'Orléans Duc de Longueville 1480-1516 was captured.

Arthur Hopton (age 24) was knighted for his bravery.

After 16 Aug 1513 Anthony Wingfield (age 26) was knighted.

In 1515 Anthony Wingfield (age 28) was appointed High Sheriff of Norfolk and High Sheriff of Suffolk.

1541 Creation of Garter Knights

In 1541, probably around St George's Day, 23 Apr 1541, King Henry VIII of England and Ireland (age 49) created four new Knights of the Garter:

Siege of Boulogne

In Jul 1544 English forces commenced the Siege of Boulogne at Boulogne sur Mer [Map]. John Chichester, William Godolphin (age 29), Henry Dudley (age 18) and Anthony Wingfield (age 57) fought. Henry Strangeways (age 44) were killed.

In 1545 Anthony Wingfield (age 58) was elected MP Horsham.

In 1547 Anthony Wingfield (age 60) was elected MP Suffolk.

Diary of Edward VI. 02 Feb 1550. Sir Anthony Wingfeld (age 63), before visechamberlaine, made controller. Sir Thomas Darcy (age 43) made visechamberlaine.3

On Candlemas day, William L. Saint-John earle of Wiltshire (age 67), L. great master, and president of the Counsell, was made Lord Treasurer: John Dudley earle of Warwike (age 46), lord great chamberlaine, was made lorde great master; William Parre Marques of Northhampton (age 38), was made Lorde great Chamberlaine: Lord Wentworth (age 49) was made L. chamberlaine of houshold: Sir Anthony Wingfield (age 63) captaine of the guard, was made comptroller of the kings house; and Thomas Darcy (age 43) knight, was made viz chamberlaine, and captaine of the Guard: and the earle of Arundel late lord Chamberlaine, with the Earle of Southampton (age 44), were put of the counsell, and commanded to heepe their houses in London.

The submission of the D. of Somerset (age 50) prisoner in the tower, made the 2, of Febuary.

Henry Machyn's Diary. 17 May 1551. The xvij day my lade Marie (age 35) rod thrugh from Saynt [John's through] Flettstrett unto the court to Westmynster [with many] nobull men of lordes and knyghtes and gentyllmen and ladies and gentyllwomen, and at the court gatte she a-lyttyd, and M. [Wingfield] (age 64), the comtroller of the kynges howse, and mony lordes and [knights], and so she was browth thrught the halle unto the cham[ber of] pressens; and so she tared there and ade a goodly ba[nquet] ij owrs, and sone after she toke her horse and rod unto Sy[nt John's;] and ther she laie alle nyght, and on the morowe her [Grace] rod to Nuw Hall in Exsex, and ther byd yn grasse with honor, thanke be God and the kyng her brodur.

Henry Machyn's Diary. 15 Aug 1552. The xv day of August ded the nobull knyght ser [Anthony] Wynckfeld (age 65), comtroller of the kynges honorabull howsse, [and of] ys preve consell, and knyght of the honorabull order of the garter; the wyche he ded at Bednoll Grene, at yong sir John G[ates] plasse,-the vj king Edward vjth. And (in) ys sted master Cottun comtroller.

On 15 Aug 1552 Anthony Wingfield (age 65) died.

Henry Machyn's Diary. 21 Aug 1552. The xxj day of August was the monumentt of ser Anthony Wynckfeld (deceased) knyght, and controller of the kynges h[owsse], bered at Stepnay [Map] with a grett compeny of mornars, [with] prestes and clarkes syngyng, and a harold ys ys M.... and so cared from Bednoll Gren over Mylle End [Map]; with ys standdard and a grett baner of armes, and [his helmet] and ys targett of the garter, and ys sword, crest a [bull] gold and sabull; and at the communyon dyd pryche [the vicar] of Sordyche, a Skott; and after a grett dener for all that cam; and alle ys gayre was offered, the elmett, and then the targett, and then the sword, and the standard, and then ys baner of armes; and after dener yt was sett up over hym, the wyche a goodly shyth to, and alle was offered to the prest,-the vj king Edward the vjth.

Note. Funeral of sir Anthony Wingfield, knight of the garter. Biographical particulars of this distinguished person will be found in Lodge's Peerage of Ireland, 1789, vol. v. p. 262. The place of his burial is not there recorded; and if his body was left to rest at Stepney, the fact is now forgotten there, as no monument exists, and the register does not commence until 1568.
