Biography of Francis Hartwell 1st Baronet 1757-1831

On 15 Feb 1757 Francis Hartwell 1st Baronet was born to Captain Broderick Hartwell of Dale Hall in Essex.

In 1781 Francis Hartwell 1st Baronet (age 23) and Anna-Charlotta-Maria were married at St Anne's Church, Soho [Map].

On 12 Feb 1783 [his son] Reverend Houlton Hartwell was born to Francis Hartwell 1st Baronet (age 25) and [his wife] Anna-Charlotta-Maria.

The King has been pleased to grant the Dignity of a Baronet of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland to the following Gentlemen, and the respective Heirs Male of their Bodies lawfully begotten, viz

Robert Wigram, of Walthamstow-House, in the County of Essex, Esq; Lieutenant Colonel Commaudant of the Sixth Regiment of Loyal London Volunteers:

Claude Champion de Crespigny (age 70), of Champion Lodge, Camberwell, in the County of Surrey, Doctor of Laws:

In 1808 Francis Hartwell 1st Baronet (age 50) was appointed Deputy Comptroller of the Navy.

On 27 Jan 1812 Francis Hartwell 1st Baronet (age 54) and Louisa Aldridge (age 35) were married. They had a daughter.

On 29 Feb 1812 [his son] Reverend Houlton Hartwell (age 29) and [his daughter-in-law] Ruth Ball (age 18) were married. They had four children.

On 28 Jun 1831 Francis Hartwell 1st Baronet (age 74) died. His grandson [his grandson] Broderick Hartwell 2nd Baronet (age 17) succeeded 2nd Baronet Hartwell of Dale Hall in Essex.

In 1792 Francis Hartwell 1st Baronet recommissioned HMS Thetis, a 38-gun fifth-rate frigate, and escorted a convoy to St. Helena after which he captured two French merchantmen, unfortunately losing one back to the French. When Thetis was paid off the following year he retired from active service.
