Robert Dudley 1st Earl of Leicester sold his interest to James Cressy who subsequently married Jane West.

In 1593 Reverend Arthur Hildersham (age 30) was appointed Vicar of St Helen's Church Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire [Map] through the influence of his cousin Henry Hastings 3rd Earl Huntingdon (age 58) (they both had Margaret York Countess of Salisbury as an ancestor) but was subsequently dismissed for his radical views. He was born into a devoutly Catholic family but converted to Protestantism at Cambridge University. His father disinherited him resulting in his having to leave Cambridge. His cousin Henry Hastings 3rd Earl Huntingdon paid for his education and appointed him lecutrer at St Helen's Church in 1587. In 1593 he became Vicar of St Helen's Church Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire [Map]; he was dismissed several times for his radical views such as refusing to wear a surplice, refusing to kneel for the sacrament, or to baptise with the sign of the cross. He was banned from the pulpit for twelve years, fined and imprisoned. In 1625 he was restored to the ministry and allowed to preach at St Helen's Church Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire [Map].
On 14 Dec 1595 Henry Hastings 3rd Earl Huntingdon (age 60) died at York [Map]. On 26 Apr 1596 Henry Hastings 3rd Earl Huntingdon was buried at Hasting's Chapel St Helen's Church Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire [Map]. His brother [his brother] George Hastings 4th Earl Huntingdon (age 55) succeeded 4th Earl Huntingdon, 9th Baron Botreaux, 8th Baron Hungerford, 6th Baron Moleyns and 6th Baron Hastings.
