Before 13 Oct 1370 [her father] Thomas Holland 2nd Earl Kent (age 20) and [her mother] Alice Fitzalan Countess Kent (age 20) were married. She by marriage Countess Kent. She the daughter of [her grandfather] Richard Fitzalan 10th Earl of Arundel 8th Earl of Surrey (age 64) and [her grandmother] Eleanor Plantagenet Countess Arundel and Surrey (age 52). He the son of [her grandfather] Thomas Holland 1st Earl Kent and [her grandmother] Joan "Fair Maid of Kent" Princess Wales (age 42). They were third cousins. He a great grandson of King Edward I of England. She a great x 2 granddaughter of King Henry III of England.

On 11 Jan 1372 [her grandmother] Eleanor Plantagenet Countess Arundel and Surrey (age 53) died at Arundel [Map]. She was buried at Lewes Priory [Map].

On 11 Jul 1372 [her future husband] Edmund of Langley 1st Duke of York (age 31) and Isabella of Castile Duchess York (age 17) were married at Wallingford, Oxfordshire [Map]. She by marriage Countess Cambridge. She being the younger sister of Constance (age 18) who had married Edmund's older brother [her future brother-in-law] John of Gaunt 1st Duke Lancaster (age 32) a year before. An example of Marriage of Two Sets of Siblings. She the illegitmate daughter of Peter "Cruel" I King Castile and Maria Padilla. He the son of King Edward III of England (age 59) and Philippa of Hainault Queen Consort England.

Around 1380 Joan Holland Duchess York was born to Thomas Holland 2nd Earl Kent (age 30) and Alice Fitzalan Countess Kent (age 30). She a great x 2 granddaughter of King Edward I of England.

Peasants' Revolt

On 14 Jun 1381 the mob gained access to the Tower of London [Map] capturing [her grandmother] Joan "Fair Maid of Kent" Princess Wales (age 52), the future King Henry IV of England (age 14), Joan Holland Duchess York (age 1) and Archbishop Simon Sudbury (age 65).

Archbishop Simon Sudbury was beheaded at Tower Hill [Map]. He was buried at Canterbury Cathedral [Map].

Lord Treasurer Robert Hales (age 56), who had only been appointed on the 1st February 1381, was beheaded at Tower Hill [Map].

After 03 Jan 1383 [her future husband] William Willoughby 5th Baron Willoughby (age 13) and Lucy Strange Baroness Willoughby Eresby were married. They were third cousins.

On 07 Aug 1385 [her grandmother] Joan "Fair Maid of Kent" Princess Wales (age 56) died at Wallingford Castle [Map]. She was buried at Blackfriars Friary, Stamford [Map] beside her first husband [her grandfather] Thomas Holland 1st Earl Kent. Her son [her father] Thomas Holland 2nd Earl Kent (age 35) succeeded 6th Baron Wake of Liddell.

On 04 Nov 1393 Edmund of Langley 1st Duke of York (age 52) and Joan Holland Duchess York (age 13) were married. She by marriage Duchess York. The difference in their ages was 38 years. She the daughter of Thomas Holland 2nd Earl Kent (age 43) and Alice Fitzalan Countess Kent (age 43). He the son of King Edward III of England and Philippa of Hainault Queen Consort England. They were half second cousin once removed. She a great x 2 granddaughter of King Edward I of England.

In 1394 [her step-son] Edward 2nd Duke of York 1st Duke Albemarle (age 21) was created 1st Earl Cork. Beatrice Burgundy Countess Rutland and Cork (age 21) by marriage Countess Cork.

Marriage of John of Gaunt and Katherine Roet

On 13 Jan 1396 [her brother-in-law] John of Gaunt 1st Duke Lancaster (age 55) and Katherine Roet Duchess Lancaster (age 45) were married at Lincoln Cathedral [Map]. She by marriage Duchess Lancaster. He the son of King Edward III of England and Philippa of Hainault Queen Consort England.

Murder of Thomas of Woodstock

Around 08 Sep 1397 [her brother-in-law] Thomas of Woodstock 1st Duke of Gloucester (age 42) was murdered in Calais [Map] for his role as leader of the Lords Appellant. Duke Albemarle, Duke Gloucester, Earl Essex forfeit. His son Humphrey Plantagenet 2nd Earl Buckingham (age 16) succeeded 2nd Earl Buckingham.

Walter Clopton was part of the inquiry into his death the outcome of which is not known. A John Hall was executed for the murder.

On 29 Sep 1397 Thomas Despencer 1st Earl Gloucester (age 24) was created 1st Earl Gloucester. [her step-daughter] Constance York Countess Gloucester (age 23) by marriage Countess Gloucester.

Before 11 Jul 1398 [her future husband] Henry Scrope 3rd Baron Scrope of Masham (age 25) and Phillipe Bryan Baroness Scrope Masham Baroness Devereux were married. She by marriage Baroness Scrope of Masham. They were third cousin once removed.

Before 07 Oct 1398 [her step-son] Edward 2nd Duke of York 1st Duke Albemarle (age 25) and Philippa Mohun Duchess AlbemarleDuchess York (age 31) were married. He the son of [her husband] Edmund of Langley 1st Duke of York (age 57) and Isabella of Castile Duchess York. He a grandson of King Edward III of England.

Death of John of Gaunt

On 03 Feb 1399 [her brother-in-law] John of Gaunt 1st Duke Lancaster (age 58) died at Leicester Castle [Map]. Katherine Roet Duchess Lancaster (age 48) was by his side. He was buried in the Choir of St Paul's Cathedral [Map] with his first wife Blanche Duchess of Lancaster. His son King Henry IV of England (age 31) succeeded 2nd Duke Lancaster, 7th Earl of Leicester.

[her uncle] King Richard II of England (age 32) witheld the future Henry IV's inheritance from him giving Henry reason to return to England to claim his lands and titles.

On 01 Aug 1402 [her husband] Edmund of Langley 1st Duke of York (age 61) died at King's Langley, Hertfordshire [Map]. His son [her step-son] Edward 2nd Duke of York 1st Duke Albemarle (age 29) succeeded 2nd Duke York, 2nd Earl Cambridge and inherited his estates which included Conisbrough Castle [Map]. Philippa Mohun Duchess AlbemarleDuchess York (age 35) by marriage Duchess York.

Before 09 Aug 1404 William Willoughby 5th Baron Willoughby (age 34) and Joan Holland Duchess York (age 24) were married. She by marriage Baroness Willoughby de Eresby. She the daughter of Thomas Holland 2nd Earl Kent and Alice Fitzalan Countess Kent (age 54). She a great x 2 granddaughter of King Edward I of England.

Before 18 Nov 1406 William Fitzhugh 4th Baron Fitzhugh (age 7) and [her step-daughter] Margery Willoughby Baroness Fitzhugh (age 9) were married.

On 04 Dec 1409 [her husband] William Willoughby 5th Baron Willoughby (age 39) died at Edgefield, Norfolk. He was buried at St James' Church, Spilsby [Map]. His son [her step-son] Robert Willoughby 6th Baron Willoughby (age 24) succeeded 6th Baron Willoughby de Eresby.

After 06 Sep 1410 Henry Scrope 3rd Baron Scrope of Masham (age 37) and Joan Holland Duchess York (age 30) were married. She by marriage Baroness Scrope of Masham. She the daughter of Thomas Holland 2nd Earl Kent and Alice Fitzalan Countess Kent (age 60). She a great x 2 granddaughter of King Edward I of England.

Southampton Plot

On 05 Aug 1415 two executions of those involved in the Southampton Plot took place at the North Gate aka Bargate [Map]:

[her former step-son] Richard of Conisbrough 1st Earl Cambridge (age 30) was beheaded. His son Richard Plantagenet 3rd Duke of York (age 3) succeeded 2nd Earl Cambridge.

[her husband] Henry Scrope 3rd Baron Scrope of Masham (age 42) was beheaded. His brother [her brother-in-law] John Scrope 4th Baron Scrope of Masham (age 27) succeeded 4th Baron Scrope of Masham.

Before 27 Apr 1416 Henry Bromflete 1st Baron Vesci (age 9) and Joan Holland Duchess York (age 36) were married. There appears to be a twenty-seven year age gap here which may suggest the marriage ewas a reward to him since she, having being married three times before, including to Edmund of Langley 1st Duke of York, would be a wealthy widow. The difference in their ages was 26 years; she, unusually, being older than him. She the daughter of Thomas Holland 2nd Earl Kent and Alice Fitzalan Countess Kent (deceased). She a great x 2 granddaughter of King Edward I of England.

Around 1434 [her daughter] Margaret Bromflete Baroness Clifford was born to [her husband] Henry Bromflete 1st Baron Vesci (age 27) and Joan Holland Duchess York (age 54) at Londesborough. She a great x 3 granddaughter of King Edward I of England.

On 12 Apr 1434 Joan Holland Duchess York (age 54) died.

On 16 Jan 1469 [her former husband] Henry Bromflete 1st Baron Vesci (age 62) died at Londesborough without male issue. Baron Vesci extinct.
