It isn't clear why he was he was created Earl at such a young age. His father [his father] John Tiptoft 1st Baron Tiptoft had died six years earlier so he had inherited Baron Tiptoft. His mother [his mother] Joyce Charleton Baroness Tiptoft had died three years earlier when he was eighteen. In 1449 he married Cecily Neville Duchess Warwick daughter of the influential [his father-in-law] Richard Neville Earl Salisbury (age 49). His earldom may have been a consequence of this marriage.

Before 20 Feb 1462 John de Vere 12th Earl of Oxford (age 53), his son Aubrey de Vere (age 21) and Thomas Tuddenham (age 60) were arrested for treason against King Edward IV (age 19). They were subsequently tried by John "Butcher of England" Tiptoft 1st Earl of Worcester (age 34).

Grant to the king's kinsman John, Earl of Worcester (age 36), and Robert Styllyngton (age 43), king's clerk, keeper of the privy seal, in repayment of £1938 12s. 3d. and £960 6s 8d. due to them respectively for certain causes concerning the custody of the sea, of two parts and the third part respectively of all the moneys arising from the subsidies culled 'tonnage' and 'poundage', viz. 3s. from the tun and 12d. from the pound, in the ports of London, Southampton and Sandwich until they be fully satisfied; and grant that during that time they may nominate as often as they please a suitable person to the treasurer of England for appointment as one of the collectors in each of the said ports.

Grant to John Scot (age 41), knight, controller of the king's household, or his executors after his death of all moneys arising from the subsidy called 'tonnage and poundage,'viz, the 3s. in the tun and the 12d. in the pound, in the port of the city of London at the hands of the collectors immediately after the full repayment of £1938 12s. 3d. to the king's kinsman John, Earl of Worcester (age 37), and £960 6s. iid. to Robert Styllington (age 44), king's clerk, keeper of the privy seal, from the said subsidy in the ports of London, Southampton and Sandwich, as granted to them by letters patent dated 30 June, 3 Edward IV., until he shall be fully satisfied of the sum of £256 3s. 6d. in which the king is indebted to him for having prepared divers ships in the port of Sandwich at the king's command and taken them to the north with victuals and soldiers on the defence of the realm. In 1466 the Lancastrian Richard Turnstall led the garrison of Harlech Castle [Map] in a raid on Wrexham. The rebels captured Holt Castle [Map]. John "Butcher of England" Tiptoft 1st Earl of Worcester (age 38) was sent to suppress the rebellion.
On 23 May 1467 Antoine "Bastard of Burgundy" (age 46) arrived at Greenwich, Kent [Map] with a retinue of 400 people to take part in a great Tournament. He was greeted by John "Butcher of England" Tiptoft 1st Earl of Worcester (age 40).
On 30 May 1467 George York 1st Duke of Clarence (age 17) and John "Butcher of England" Tiptoft 1st Earl of Worcester (age 40) visited Antoine "Bastard of Burgundy" (age 46) at his lodgings in Chelsea.
On 05 Jun 1467 the challenger Edward Woodville Lord Scales (age 11) travelled to London and was conveyed to Ely Palace Camden by John "Butcher of England" Tiptoft 1st Earl of Worcester (age 40).
On 08 Jun 1467 King Edward IV of England (age 25) and John "Butcher of England" Tiptoft 1st Earl of Worcester (age 40) went to Whitehall Palace [Map] to retrieve the Great Seal from [his former brother-in-law] Archbishop George Neville (age 35). Considered as a slight against the Neville family to whom King Edward IV of England was increasingly distant.
On 11 Jun 1467 the fighting on horseback took place witnessed by King Edward IV of England (age 25). John "Butcher of England" Tiptoft 1st Earl of Worcester (age 40) was Master of the Ceremonies accompanied by John Howard 1st Duke of Norfolk (age 42). The day ended with the Bastard's (age 46) horse having being accidentally fatally injured by Lord Scales' (age 11) saddle.
On 14 Jun 1467 the Tournament ended with a great banquet attended by King Edward IV of England (age 25) and Elizabeth Woodville Queen Consort England (age 30) at the Grocer's Hall. John "Butcher of England" Tiptoft 1st Earl of Worcester (age 40) and William Fitzalan 16th Earl of Arundel (age 49) were present.
In Sep 1467 William Stanley (age 32) and [his wife] Elizabeth Hopton Countess of Worcester (age 40) were married. He a great x 4 grandson of King Edward I of England.
In 1468 Thomas Fitzgerald 7th Earl Desmond and Thomas Fitzgerald 7th Earl of Kildare (age 47) attended Parliament in Drogheda [Map] to answer charges of treason. Both were found guilty and attain. Thomas Fitzgerald 7th Earl Desmond sought sanctuary in Drogheda Priory [Map] where he was captured by John "Butcher of England" Tiptoft 1st Earl of Worcester (age 40). On 14 Feb 1468 Thomas Fitzgerald 7th Earl Desmond was summarily beheaded. He was buried initially in St Peter's Church Drogheda [Map] then Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin [Map]. Some accounts claim John "Butcher of England" Tiptoft 1st Earl of Worcester also murdered two of his young sons. Thomas Fitzgerald 7th Earl of Kildare escaped and was subsequently pardoned and attainder reversed when King Edward IV found Ireland was ungovernable without him. In 1470 Thomas Fitzgerald 7th Earl of Kildare was appointed Lord Deputy of Ireland under George York 1st Duke of Clarence (age 18) which position he held until the Duke's death in 1478.

Around 1470 [his son] Edward Tiptoft 2nd Earl of Worcester was born to John "Butcher of England" Tiptoft 1st Earl of Worcester (age 42) and [his wife] Elizabeth Hopton Countess of Worcester (age 43).
Before 10 May 1470 John "Butcher of England" Tiptoft 1st Earl of Worcester (age 43) sat in judgement on the [his former brother-in-law] Earl of Warwick's (age 41) men who had attempted to steal the ship Trinity for the Earl of Warwick. In addition to the usual punishment of hanging, drawing and quartering Tiptoft also subjected the men's corpses to being impaled, perhaps unique in English punishments, but usual for pirates in Europe. His actions were described as cruel and unmerited by the common people and resulted in Tiptoft being known as 'Butcher'.

[10 May 1470] And whenne the Duke of Clarence and the Earl of Warwike herde the felde was loste, and how there cownselle was dyscoverede, they fledde westwarde to the see syde, and toke there here schippys, and sayled towarde Southamptone, and e[n]tendet there to have a grete schyppe of the seide [his former brother-in-law] Earl of Warwicks (age 41), callyde the Trinite; but the Lorde Scales, the Quenes brother, was sent thedere by the Kynges commawndement, and other withe hym, and faught with the seide Duke and Earl, and toke there dyverse schyppes of theres and many of ther men therein; so that the Duke and the Earl were fayne to flee to the Kynge of Fraunce, where they were worschipfully receyved. And after this the Kynge Edwarde came to Southamptone, and commawndede the Earl of Worcetere (age 43) to sitt and juge suche menne as were taken in the schyppes, and so xx. persones of gentylmen and yomenne were hangede, drawne, and quartered, and hedede; and after that they hanged uppe by the leggys, and a stake made scharpe at bothe endes, whereof one ende was putt in att bottokys, and the other ende ther heddes were putt uppe one; for the whiche the peple of the londe were gretely displesyd; and evere afterwarde the Earl of Worcestre was gretely behatede emonge the peple, for ther dysordinate dethe that he used, contrarye to the lawe of the londe.
On 10 May 1470 King Edward IV of England (age 28), his brother Richard Duke of Gloucester (age 17), John "Butcher of England" Tiptoft 1st Earl of Worcester (age 43) and John Tuchet 6th Baron Audley, 3rd Baron Tuchet (age 44) met in the Chapter House at Salisbury Cathedral [Map].
On 18 Oct 1470 John "Butcher of England" Tiptoft 1st Earl of Worcester (age 43) was beheaded at Tower Green, Tower of London [Map]. On 14 Apr 1471 His son [his son] Edward Tiptoft 2nd Earl of Worcester succeeded 2nd Earl Worcester, 3rd Baron Tiptoft.
Warkworth's Chronicle 1470. 18 Oct 1470. And thenne was takene the Earl of Worcetre (age 43), whiche was arested and areynede befor Sere Jhon Veere (age 28), the Earl of Oxenforde, sonne and heyre to the forseide Earl of Oxenforde whiche was behedede1 at the Toure Hille, as before wrytene; and so the Earl of Worcetre was juged be suche lawe as he dyde to other menne; and, whenne he was dede, his body and his hede was buryede togedyr at the Blacke Frerys in Londone, with alle the honoure and worschyppe that his frendes coude do.

This coming from a partizan of the same side with the Earl, at a period when party politics necessarily ran so high, is strikingly conclusive of that nobleman's character. Cf. Chron. p. 9, l. 13—21.
A Brief Latin Chronicle. 18 Oct 1470. In those days, that fierce executioner and dreadful beheader of men, the Earl of Worcester (age 43), was captured and imprisoned in the Tower of London, and soon after was beheaded near the said tower, and was obscurely buried at the Friars Preachers near Ludgate.

On 22 Jun 1498 [his former wife] Elizabeth Hopton Countess of Worcester (age 71) died at Hopton Castle, Shropshire [Map].
