From 1711 to 1720 John Vanderbank (age 25) studied under Godfrey Kneller (age 64) at the Art Academy run by James Thornhill (age 36) in Great Queen Street.
After 1720 John Vanderbank (age 25) and Louis Chéron founded their own Academy in St Martin's Lane. The venture was ultimately unsuccessful.

A full-length portrait of a woman, standing, turned slightly to the right, head inclined to the left, gazing at the spectator, wearing wearing robes worn at the coronation of George II. A Countess's coronet is shown on the table, right. She wears an elaborate white silk gown with a red velvet bodice edged with white fur, and a long red cloak over which is a cape of Ermine. She holds a fold of her cloak in her right hand and gestures to the right with her left hand.
