Before 04 Jul 1518 Thomas Wharton 1st Baron Wharton (age 23) and Eleanor Stapleton Baroness Wharton were married.

In 1520 [his father] Thomas Wharton died.

In 1520 [his son] Thomas Wharton 2nd Baron Wharton was born to Thomas Wharton 1st Baron Wharton (age 25) and [his wife] Eleanor Stapleton Baroness Wharton.

On 20 Jun 1527 Thomas Wharton 1st Baron Wharton (age 32) was knighted at Windsor, Berkshire [Map].

On 18 Oct 1539 Edmund Braye 1st Baron Braye (age 55) died. His son John Braye 2nd Baron Braye succeeded 2nd Baron Braye. As a minor he was placed under the wardship of Francis Talbot 5th Earl of Shrewsbury (age 39). He would later marry Talbot's daughter [his future wife] Anne Talbot Baroness Braye and Wharton (age 15).

Battle of Solway Moss

On 25 Nov 1542 Thomas Wharton 1st Baron Wharton (age 47) commanded the English forces at Battle of Solway Moss at Solway Moss, Cumberland [Map]. John Thynne (age 27) fought. Of the Scottish army Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming (age 48), Gilbert Kennedy 3rd Earl Cassilis (age 27) and Laurence Oliphant 3rd Lord Oliphant fought.

William Graham 3rd Earl Menteith (age 42) was captured. He was ransomed in 1453.

William Cunningham 4th Earl Glencairn (age 49) was captured and committed to the custody of Thomas Howard 3rd Duke of Norfolk (age 69). He was released on payment of a ransom of a thousand pounds and subscribing by his own hand to support Henry VIII's (age 51) project of a marriage between the young King Edward VI of England and Ireland (age 5) and the Mary Queen of Scots.

Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming was captured.

In 1544 Thomas Wharton 1st Baron Wharton (age 49) was created 1st Baron Wharton for his success at the Battle of Solway Moss. [his wife] Eleanor Stapleton Baroness Wharton by marriage Baroness Wharton.

In May 1547 [his son] Thomas Wharton 2nd Baron Wharton (age 27) and [his daughter-in-law] Anne Radclyffe Baroness Wharton were married. She the daughter of Robert Radclyffe 1st Earl of Sussex and Margaret Stanley Countess Sussex.

Before 19 Nov 1557 John Braye 2nd Baron Braye and [his future wife] Anne Talbot Baroness Braye and Wharton (age 33) were married. She by marriage Baroness Braye. She being the daughter of Francis Talbot 5th Earl of Shrewsbury (age 57) who ward John had been. She the daughter of Francis Talbot 5th Earl of Shrewsbury and Mary Dacre. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

Henry Machyn's Diary. 14 Jun 1561. The xiiij day of June was bered in Essex my [his former daughter-in-law] lade Wartun, the wyff of ser Thomas Wartun (age 66), behyng presoner in the towre of London [Map] at here deth and berehyng, and master Somersett the harold of armes, a gret baner of armes, and iiij dosen of skochyons of armes, the wyche the good lade ded of a thowgh [cough], and she was as fayre a lade as be, and mony mornars in blake, and grett mone mad for her in the contrey.

"Lady Anne Ratclyff, daughter to Robert erl of Sussex and lady Margaret his wyff daughter of Thomas erl of Darby, late wyff to sir Thomas Wharton knight, son and heyr to Thomas lord Wharton, dyed the 7. of June, 1561, at the honner of Bewlew, otherwysse called Newhall, in Essex, and was beryed in the parishe churche of Boreham the xiiijth of the mounthe aforesaid: leaving issue Phelyp Wharton son and heyre, Thomas Wharton 2 son, Mary Wharton, Anne." Before 18 Nov 1561 [his wife] Eleanor Stapleton Baroness Wharton died at the Tower of London [Map].

On 18 Nov 1561 Thomas Wharton 1st Baron Wharton (age 66) and Anne Talbot Baroness Braye and Wharton (age 37) were married. She by marriage Baroness Wharton. The difference in their ages was 29 years. She the daughter of Francis Talbot 5th Earl of Shrewsbury and Mary Dacre. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

On 09 Feb 1568 Henry Cavendish (age 17) and Grace Talbot (age 18) were married. The marriage, unhappy, produced no issue. She being the daughter of his step-father [his brother-in-law] George Talbot 6th Earl of Shrewsbury (age 40). She the daughter of George Talbot 6th Earl of Shrewsbury and Gertrude Manners Countess Shrewsbury and Waterford. He the son of William Cavendish and Bess of Hardwick Countess Shrewsbury and Waterford (age 41).

On 23 Aug 1568 Thomas Wharton 1st Baron Wharton (age 73) died. His son [his son] Thomas Wharton 2nd Baron Wharton (age 48) succeeded 2nd Baron Wharton. [his former daughter-in-law] Anne Radclyffe Baroness Wharton by marriage Baroness Wharton.

On 03 Feb 1585 [his former wife] Anne Talbot Baroness Braye and Wharton (age 61) died.
