Earl Pembroke (1st Creation)

In or before 1130 Gilbert de Clare 1st Earl Pembroke (age 29) and Isabel Beaumont Countess Pembroke were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke. She the daughter of Robert Beaumont 1st Earl of Leicester Count Meulan and Elizabeth Capet Countess Leicester, Meulan and Surrey (age 44).

In 1138 Gilbert de Clare 1st Earl Pembroke (age 38) was created 1st Earl Pembroke by King Stephen I England (age 44) leading to doubt as to its authenticity when King Henry "Curtmantle" II of England (age 4) ascended the throne.

On 14 May 1219 William Marshal 1st Earl Pembroke (age 73) died. On 14 May 1219 His son William "The Younger" Marshal 2nd Earl Pembroke (age 29) succeeded 2nd Earl Pembroke.

On 23 Apr 1224 William "The Younger" Marshal 2nd Earl Pembroke (age 34) and Eleanor Plantagenet Countess Pembroke and Leicester (age 9) were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke. On 27 Nov 1245 Walter Marshal 5th Earl Pembroke (age 46) died at Goodrich Castle, Gloucestershire [Map]. He was buried at Tintern Abbey [Map] next to his mother Isabel Clare Countess Pembroke His brother Anselm Marshal 6th Earl Pembroke (age 37) succeeded 6th Earl Pembroke although he only enjoyed the title for one month dying on 23 Dec 1245.

In 1247 William de Valence 1st Earl Pembroke was created 1st Earl Pembroke. Joan Munchensi Countess Pembroke (age 17) by marriage Countess Pembroke.

On 20 Sep 1307 Joan Munchensi Countess Pembroke (age 77) died. Her son Aymer de Valence 2nd Earl Pembroke (age 32) succeeded 2nd Earl Pembroke.

In 1321 Aymer de Valence 2nd Earl Pembroke (age 46) and Marie Chatillon Countess Pembroke (age 18) were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke. The difference in their ages was 28 years. In 1339 Laurence Hastings 1st Earl Pembroke (age 19) was created 1st Earl Pembroke. Agnes Mortimer Countess of Pembroke (age 22) by marriage Countess Pembroke.

On 20 Aug 1348 Laurence Hastings 1st Earl Pembroke (age 29) died at Abergavenny Castle [Map]. He was buried at Abergavenny Priory [Map]. His son John Hastings 2nd Earl Pembroke succeeded 2nd Earl Pembroke, 4th Baron Hastings, 15th Baron Bergavenny Feudal Creation.

On 19 May 1359, or thereabouts, a double-royal wedding celebration took place at Reading Abbey, Berkshire [Map] whereby two children of King Edward III of England (age 46) were married:

John of Gaunt 1st Duke Lancaster (age 19) and Blanche Duchess of Lancaster (age 17) were married. She by marriage Countess Richmond. She the daughter of Henry of Grosmont 1st Duke Lancaster (age 49) and Isabel Beaumont Duchess Lancaster (age 39). John Hastings 2nd Earl Pembroke (age 11) and Margaret Plantagenet Countess of Pembroke (age 12) were married. At the time John Hastings 2nd Earl Pembroke was a ward of King Edward III of England who would enjoy the benefit of the substantial revenue of the Earldom of Pembroke until John came of age nine years later in 1368. She died two or so years later probably of plague. She the daughter of King Edward III of England and Philippa of Hainault Queen Consort England. He the son of Laurence Hastings 1st Earl Pembroke and Agnes Mortimer Countess of Pembroke (age 42). They were half fourth cousins. He a great x 5 grandson of King John of England.

In Jul 1368 John Hastings 2nd Earl Pembroke (age 20) and Anne Manny Countess Pembroke were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke. On 16 May 1414 King Henry V of England (age 27) created Dukedoms for his two brothers:

Humphrey Lancaster 1st Duke Gloucester (age 23) was created 1st Duke Gloucester, 1st Earl Pembroke.

John Lancaster 1st Duke Bedford (age 24) was created 1st Duke Bedford, 1st Earl Kendal.

On 20 Feb 1447 Humphrey Lancaster 1st Duke Gloucester (age 56) was arrested on a charge of treason by John Beaumont 1st Viscount Beaumont (age 37), Humphrey Stafford 1st Duke of Buckingham (age 44), Edmund Beaufort 1st or 2nd Duke of Somerset (age 41), Richard Neville Earl Salisbury (age 47) and Ralph Boteler 6th and 1st Baron Sudeley (age 58).

On 23 Feb 1447 Humphrey Lancaster 1st Duke Gloucester died at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk [Map]. He was possibly poisoned although more likely he died from a stroke. He was buried at St Alban's Cathedral [Map]. Duke Gloucester, Earl Pembroke extinct. His death left England with no heir to the throne in a direct line. Richard Plantagenet 3rd Duke of York (age 35) became heir presumptive until the birth of Edward of Westminster Prince of Wales six years later.

Earl Pembroke (6th Creation)

In 1447 William "Jackanapes" de la Pole 1st Duke of Suffolk (age 50) was created 1st Earl Pembroke. Alice Chaucer Duchess Suffolk (age 43) by marriage Countess Pembroke.

On 01 May 1450 William "Jackanapes" de la Pole 1st Duke of Suffolk (age 53) was beheaded at sea whilst travelling into exile his ship having been intercepted by the Nicholas of the Tower, or by Admiral Nicholas of the Tower. His son John de la Pole 2nd Duke of Suffolk (age 7) succeeded 2nd Marquess Suffolk 1C, 5th Earl Suffolk, 5th Baron Pole. Margaret Beaufort Countess Richmond (age 6) by marriage Marchioness Suffolk 1C. Earl Pembroke forfeit.

Earl Pembroke (7th Creation)

On 25 Nov 1452 Jasper Tudor 1st Duke Bedford (age 21) was created 1st Earl Pembroke.

On 07 Nov 1485 Jasper Tudor 1st Duke Bedford (age 54) and Catherine Woodville Duchess Buckingham Duchess Bedford (age 27) were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke. The difference in their ages was 26 years. She the daughter of Richard Woodville 1st Earl Rivers and Jacquetta of Luxemburg Duchess Bedford. He the son of Owen Tudor and Catherine of Valois Queen Consort England. He a great x 5 grandson of King Edward I of England.

On 27 May 1468 William Herbert 1st Earl Pembroke (age 45) was created 1st Earl Pembroke.

On 27 Jul 1469 William Herbert 1st Earl Pembroke (age 46) was executed following his capture at the Battle of Edgecote Moor aka Danes Moor aka Banbury the day before. His son William Herbert 2nd Earl Pembroke 1st Earl Huntingdon (age 18) succeeded 2nd Earl Pembroke, 2nd Baron Herbert of Raglan. Mary Woodville Countess Pembroke and Huntingdon (age 13) by marriage Countess Pembroke.

His brother Richard Herbert (age 46) was also beheaded on the same day.

In 1479 William Herbert 2nd Earl Pembroke 1st Earl Huntingdon (age 27) was compelled to relinquish the Earldom of Pembroke by King Edward IV (age 36) who gave it to his son.

Edward Prince of Wales (age 8) was created 1st Earl Pembroke.

In compensation William was created 1st Earl Huntingdon. Mary Woodville Countess Pembroke and Huntingdon (age 23) by marriage Countess Huntingdon.

Earl Pembroke (9th Creation)

In 1479 William Herbert 2nd Earl Pembroke 1st Earl Huntingdon (age 27) was compelled to relinquish the Earldom of Pembroke by King Edward IV (age 36) who gave it to his son.

Edward Prince of Wales (age 8) was created 1st Earl Pembroke.

In compensation William was created 1st Earl Huntingdon. Mary Woodville Countess Pembroke and Huntingdon (age 23) by marriage Countess Huntingdon.

Around Aug 1483 the Princes in the Tower, brothers King Edward V of England (age 12) and Richard of Shrewsbury 1st Duke of York (age 9) disappeared from the Tower of London [Map].

11 Oct 1551, the day before his fourteenth birthday, King Edward VI (age 13) celebrated at Hampton Court Palace [Map] by rewarding his guardians; it may have been a case of his guardians rewarding themselves.

John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland (age 47) was created 1st Duke Northumberland. Jane Guildford Duchess Northumberland (age 42) by marriage Duchess Northumberland. His son Henry Dudley (age 25) was knighted.

Henry Grey 1st Duke of Suffolk (age 34) was created 1st Duke Suffolk for having married King Edward VI's first cousin Frances Brandon Duchess of Suffolk (age 34). Frances Brandon Duchess of Suffolk by marriage Duchess Suffolk.

William Paulet (age 68) was created 1st Marquess Winchester. Elizabeth Capell Marchioness Winchester by marriage Marchioness Winchester.

His guardian William Herbert (age 50) was created 1st Earl Pembroke. Anne Parr Countess Pembroke (age 36) by marriage Countess Pembroke.

Edward Seymour 1st Duke of Somerset (age 51), the King's uncle attended.

Henry Dudley was knighted at Hampton Court Palace, Richmond [Map].

After 20 Feb 1552 William Herbert 1st Earl Pembroke (age 51) and Anne Talbot Countess Pembroke (age 28) were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke. The difference in their ages was 22 years.
