Biography of Charles Sloane Cadogan 1st Earl Cadogan 1728-1807

Paternal Family Tree: Cadogan

On 26 Jul 1717 [his father] Charles Cadogan 2nd Baron Cadogan (age 32) and [his mother] Elizabeth Sloane Baroness Cadogan (age 22) were married at Church of St George the Martyr, Queen Square. The marriage transferred the 250-acre (1.0 km2) Sloane estate in suburban Chelsea to the Cadogan family, which has been the basis of the family wealth ever since.

On 17 Jul 1726 [his uncle] William Cadogan 1st Earl Cadogan (age 54) died without male issue. Earl Cadogan extinct. His brother [his father] Charles Cadogan 2nd Baron Cadogan (age 41) succeeded 2nd Baron Cadogan. [his mother] Elizabeth Sloane Baroness Cadogan (age 31) by marriage Baroness Cadogan.

On 29 Sep 1728 Charles Sloane Cadogan 1st Earl Cadogan was born to Charles Cadogan 2nd Baron Cadogan (age 43) and Elizabeth Sloane Baroness Cadogan (age 33).

On 30 May 1747 Charles Sloane Cadogan 1st Earl Cadogan (age 18) and Frances Bromley (age 19) were married.

On 29 Nov 1749 [his son] Charles Henry Sloane 2nd Earl Cadogan was born to Charles Sloane Cadogan 1st Earl Cadogan (age 21) and [his wife] Frances Bromley (age 21).

In 1781 Horatio Walpole 2nd Earl Orford (age 28) and [his sister-in-law] Sophia Churchill (age 25) were married. He the son of Horatio Walpole 1st Earl Orford (age 57) and Rachel Cavendish (age 53). They were half second cousins.

On 11 Jul 1781 [his daughter] Charlotte Cadogan Marchioness Anglesey was born to Charles Sloane Cadogan 1st Earl Cadogan (age 52) and [his wife] Mary Churchill Countess Cadogan (age 23).

On 05 May 1783 [his son] George Cadogan 3rd Earl Cadogan was born to Charles Sloane Cadogan 1st Earl Cadogan (age 54) and [his wife] Mary Churchill Countess Cadogan (age 25) in St James' Square.

On 11 Nov 1797 [his sister-in-law] Sophia Churchill (age 41) died.

On 02 Jun 1802 [his son-in-law] Reverend Gerald Valerian Wellesley (age 31) and [his daughter] Emily Maud Cadogan (age 29) were married. She the daughter of Charles Sloane Cadogan 1st Earl Cadogan (age 73) and Mary Churchill Countess Cadogan (age 44). He the son of Garrett Wellesley 1st Earl Mornington and Anne Hill Countess Mornington (age 59).

On 03 Apr 1807 Charles Sloane Cadogan 1st Earl Cadogan (age 78) died. His son [his son] Charles Henry Sloane 2nd Earl Cadogan (age 57) succeeded 2nd Earl Cadogan, 2nd Viscount Chelsea. He was by then a lunatic.

The Times. 14 Feb 1873. DEATH OF Baroness Cadogan. We have to announce the death of the Countess Cadogan (deceased), which occurred on Tuesday at Cadogan House Belgravia. The deceased, who had long been an invalid, was the third daughter of the late [his former son-in-law] Hon. and Rev. Gerald V. Wesley D.D., and [his daughter] Lady Emily, eldest daughter of the first Earl Cadogan. She was born in February, 1812 [NOTE. Sources state 16 Jan 1808], and married July 13, 1836, her cousin, the present Lord Cadogan (age 60), then Viscount Chelsea. She leaves issue four sons and a daughter.
