In or before 1926 Gyles Isham 12th Baronet (age 22) was admitted to Magdalen College, Oxford University. He was President of the Oxford Union in 1926. Graduated MA in 1930.
In 1940 Gyles Isham 12th Baronet (age 36) was commissioned as an officer into the King's Royal Rifle Corps and served in Libya in the Western Desert Campaign, by 1943 reaching the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.
