Baron Bergavenny is a complex Barony. When Henry Neville 6th and 4th Baron Bergavenny died in 1587 there was some confusion as to whether the Barony descended in the male and female lines ie heirs general, which is considered to be the valid line, or whether it was constrained to male onle. If the former then Henry's daughter [his daughter] Mary Neville 3rd Baroness Despencer should have inherited, if the latter her cousin Edward Neville 7th and 5th Baron Bergavenny should have inherited. In the event Edward Neville 7th and 5th Baron Bergavenny and his descendants held the Barony, as well as the second creation Baron Bergavenny. If the claim of Mary Neville 3rd Baroness Despencer was valid, she and her descendants, the Earls of Westmoreland, should have been the Barons of the 1st Creation.
In or before 1491 [his father] George Neville 5th and 3rd Baron Bergavenny (age 22) and Mary Brooke Baroness Bergavenny were married. She by marriage Baroness Bergavenny. They were half first cousin once removed. He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward III of England. She a great x 4 granddaughter of King Edward III of England. 
On 20 Sep 1492 [his grandfather] George Neville 4th and 2nd Baron Bergavenny (age 52) died. His son [his father] George Neville 5th and 3rd Baron Bergavenny (age 23) succeeded 5th Baron Bergavenny, 3rd Baron Bergavenny.
Before 14 Nov 1508 [his father] George Neville 5th and 3rd Baron Bergavenny (age 39) and Joan Fitzalan Baroness Bergavenny were married. She by marriage Baroness Bergavenny. She the daughter of Thomas Fitzalan 17th Earl Arundel (age 58) and Margaret Woodville Countess Arundel. They were second cousin once removed. He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward III of England. She a great x 4 granddaughter of King Edward III of England. 
Before 05 Sep 1513 [his father] George Neville 5th and 3rd Baron Bergavenny (age 44) and Margaret Brent Baroness Bergavenny were married. She by marriage Baroness Bergavenny. He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward III of England.
Around Jun 1519 [his father] George Neville 5th and 3rd Baron Bergavenny (age 50) and [his mother] Mary Stafford Baroness Bergavenny (age 24) were married. She by marriage Baroness Bergavenny. The difference in their ages was 26 years. She the daughter of Edward Stafford 3rd Duke of Buckingham (age 41) and Eleanor Percy Duchess Buckingham. They were second cousin twice removed. He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward III of England. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Edward III of England. 
Around 1530 Henry Neville 6th and 4th Baron Bergavenny was born to George Neville 5th and 3rd Baron Bergavenny (age 61) and Mary Stafford Baroness Bergavenny (age 34).
Around 1535 [his father] George Neville 5th and 3rd Baron Bergavenny (age 66) died. His son Henry Neville 6th and 4th Baron Bergavenny (age 5) succeeded 6th Baron Bergavenny, 4th Baron Bergavenny.
In Aug 1543 Henry Capell (age 17) and [his future sister-in-law] Catherine Manners (age 4) were married. She the daughter of Thomas Manners 1st Earl of Rutland (age 51) and Eleanor Paston Countess Rutland (age 48). She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Edward III of England. 
On 17 Dec 1545 [his mother] Mary Stafford Baroness Bergavenny (age 50) died in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire [Map].

The xxix day of September the Qwuen('s) (age 37) grace mad knyghts of the Bathe xv; the furst was the yerle of Devonshyre (age 26), the yonge yerle of Surray (age 17), the iijde lord of Borgane, and lord Barkley, the lord Monjoye (age 20), lord Sowche (age 27), ser Wylliam Pallet, my lord Cardyff (age 52), the lord Wyndsore('s) (age 54) sune (age 21), sir Ryche('s) sune, sir Clynton, ser Pagett, ser Robart Rochaster, ser Hare Jernyngham (age 41), ser Edward Dormer.

In 1554 [his daughter] Mary Neville 3rd Baroness Despencer was born to Henry Neville 6th and 4th Baron Bergavenny (age 24) and [his wife] Frances Manners Baroness Bergavenny (age 24).
On 28 Jan 1554 the Battle of Hartley was fought at Hartley Sevenoaks, Kent between a rebel force of Wyatt's Rebellion led by Henry Isley (age 54) and a loyal royalist force led by Henry Neville 6th and 4th Baron Bergavenny (age 24) and Robert Southwell (age 48). The rebels were defeated. Rebel Anthony Knyvet (age 37) fought and was captured.
On 08 Aug 1570 [his sister-in-law] Elizabeth Manners (age 44) died at Frodsham [Map]. She was buried at Savage Chapel, St Michael and All Angels Church, Macclesfield.
On 09 Mar 1572 [his sister-in-law] Catherine Manners (age 32) died.
Before 22 Mar 1572 [his brother-in-law] John Manners (age 45) and Dorothy Vernon (age 41) were married. He the son of Thomas Manners 1st Earl of Rutland and Eleanor Paston Countess Rutland. He a great x 5 grandson of King Edward III of England.
On 12 Dec 1574 [his son-in-law] Thomas Fane (age 64) and [his daughter] Mary Neville 3rd Baroness Despencer (age 20) were married at Birling, Kent [Map]. The difference in their ages was 44 years. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Edward III of England. 
In Sep 1576 [his wife] Frances Manners Baroness Bergavenny (age 46) died at Birling, Kent [Map].
On 24 Jun 1584 Dorothy Vernon (age 53) died. On 04 Jun 1611 [his former brother-in-law] John Manners (age 84) died at Haddon Hall [Map]. Both were buried at All Saint's Church, Bakewell, Derbyshire [Map]. Elizabethan Period facing each other. Complex armorial of his arms impaled with her arms.

Dorothy Vernon: In 1531 she was born to George Vernon "King of the Peak" and Margaret Tailboys. Before 22 Mar 1572 John Manners and she were married. He the son of Thomas Manners 1st Earl of Rutland and Eleanor Paston Countess Rutland. He a great x 5 grandson of King Edward III of England.
John Manners: In 1527 he was born to Thomas Manners 1st Earl of Rutland and Eleanor Paston Countess Rutland.
Eleanor Ros: Around 1449 she was born to Thomas Ros 9th Baron Ros Helmsley and Philippa Tiptoft Baroness Ros Helmsley. In or before 1460 Robert Manners and she were married. He a great x 5 grandson of King Edward "Longshanks" I of England. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Edward "Longshanks" I of England. In 1487 Eleanor Ros died. In 1492 George Manners 11th Baron Ros Helmsley became a ward of his uncle-in-law Thomas Lovell, husband of his mother's sister Isabel Ros as a consequence of his father Robert Manners being deemed unable to administer his own affairs.

On 10 Feb 1587 Henry Neville 6th and 4th Baron Bergavenny (age 57) died. His first cousin Edward Neville 7th and 5th Baron Bergavenny (age 61) succeeded 7th Baron Bergavenny, 5th Baron Bergavenny. By modern doctrine the successor should have been [his daughter] Mary Neville 3rd Baroness Despencer (age 33). She was subsequently awarded the Despencer Barony in compensation.
