Biography of John Lubbock 1st Baron Avebury 1834-1913

In 1833 [his father] John Lubbock 3rd Baronet (age 29) and [his mother] Harriet Hotham were married. They had eleven children.

On 30 Apr 1834 John Lubbock 1st Baron Avebury was born to John Lubbock 3rd Baronet (age 31) and Harriet Hotham.

On 22 Oct 1840 [his grandfather] John Lubbock 2nd Baronet (age 66) died. His son [his father] John Lubbock 3rd Baronet (age 37) succeeded 3rd Baronet Lubbock of Lammas in Norfolk.

In Apr 1856 John Lubbock 1st Baron Avebury (age 21) and Ellen Frances Horden Lady Lubbock were married.

On 04 Oct 1858 [his son] John Lubbock 2nd Baron Avebury was born to John Lubbock 1st Baron Avebury (age 24) and [his wife] Ellen Frances Horden Lady Lubbock.

On 21 Jun 1865 [his father] John Lubbock 3rd Baronet (age 62) died. His son John Lubbock 1st Baron Avebury (age 31) succeeded 4th Baronet Lubbock of Lammas in Norfolk. [his wife] Ellen Frances Horden Lady Lubbock by marriage Lady Lubbock of Lammas in Norfolk.

The difference in their ages was 27 years. She the daughter of Augustus Henry Fox Pitt-Rivers (age 57) and Alice Margaret Stanley (age 56).

On 17 May 1884 [his wife] Ellen Frances Horden Lady Lubbock died.

On 30 Mar 1886 [his daughter] Irene Lubbock was born to John Lubbock 1st Baron Avebury (age 51) and [his wife] Alice Lane Fox-Pitt Baroness Avebury (age 24)

On 10 Jun 1888 [his son] Captain Harold Fox-Pitt Lubbock was born to John Lubbock 1st Baron Avebury (age 54) and [his wife] Alice Lane Fox-Pitt Baroness Avebury (age 26) at 39 Berkeley Square, Mayfair.

In 1889 [his brother-in-law] Alexander Edward Lane-Fox Pitt-Rivers (age 33) and Alice Ruth Hermione Thynne were married. He the son of Augustus Henry Fox Pitt-Rivers (age 61) and Alice Margaret Stanley (age 61).

On 06 Nov 1895 [his brother-in-law] Arthur Algernon Lane Fox-Pitt (age 29) died.

In 1899 [his brother-in-law] St George Lane Fox-Pitt (age 42) and Edith Douglas (age 25) were married. He the son of Augustus Henry Fox Pitt-Rivers (age 71) and Alice Margaret Stanley (age 71).

The London Gazette 27156. Whitehall, January 22, 1900. The Queen (age 80) has been pleased to direct Letters Patent to be passed under the Great Seal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, granting the dignity of a Baron of the said United Kingdom unto the Right Honourable Sir John Lubbock (age 65), of Lamas [Map], in the county of Norfolk, High Elms [Map], in the county of Kent, and Avebury [Map], in the county of Wilts, Bart, and the heirs male of his body lawfully begotten, by the name, style, and title of Baron Avebury, of Avebury, in the county of Wilts.

On 05 Dec 1905 [his son-in-law] Edward Henry Pelham (age 28) and [his daughter] Irene Lubbock (age 19) were married.

On 28 May 1913 John Lubbock 1st Baron Avebury (age 79) died. His son [his son] John Lubbock 2nd Baron Avebury (age 54) succeeded 2nd Baron Avebury of Avebury in Wiltshire, 5th Baronet Lubbock of Lammas in Norfolk.

On 11 Mar 1947 [his former wife] Alice Lane Fox-Pitt Baroness Avebury (age 85) died.

Nænia Cornubiæ by William Borlase Lanyon Cromlech. Coming further South the combined researches of Sir R. C. Hoare and Thomas Bateman, Esq., tabulated by Sir John Lubbock, show that out of some 500 interments explored with care, only thirty-seven were extended, while 112 were contracted, the rest being burnt.
