Around 1577 John Abernethy 8th Lord Saltoun was born to George Abernethy 7th Lord Saltoun (age 22) and Margaret Stewart Lady Saltoun.
In 1587 [his grandfather] Alexander Abernethy 6th Lord Saltoun died. His son [his father] George Abernethy 7th Lord Saltoun (age 32) succeeded 7th Lord Saltoun. [his mother] Margaret Stewart Lady Saltoun by marriage Lord Saltoun.

Before 08 Nov 1609 [his brother-in-law] James Stewart (age 24) and Dorothy Hastings (age 30) were married. She the daughter of George Hastings 4th Earl Huntingdon and Dorothy Port Countess Huntingdon.
On 08 Nov 1609 George Wharton (age 26) and [his brother-in-law] James Stewart (age 24) were both killed in a duel with each other over a game of cards. They were buried together in the same grave in Islington, by the King's command on 10 Nov 1609.
On 26 Mar 1611 [his son] Alexander Abernethy 9th Lord Saltoun was born to John Abernethy 8th Lord Saltoun (age 34) and [his wife] Anne Stewart (age 30).
