Biography of Malise Graham 3rd Earl Strathearn 1st Earl Menteith 1407-1485
Around Mar 1386 [his grandfather] David Stewart 3rd Earl Strathearn 1st Earl Caithness (age 30) died. His daughter [his mother] Eupheme Stewart 2nd Countess of Strathearn and Caithness succeeded 2nd Countess Strathearn, 2nd Countess Caithness.
Around 1407 Malise Graham 3rd Earl Strathearn 1st Earl Menteith was born to Patrick Graham (age 24) and Eupheme Stewart 2nd Countess of Strathearn and Caithness.
Around 10 Aug 1413 [his father] Patrick Graham (age 30) died.
In 1423 Malise Graham 3rd Earl Strathearn 1st Earl Menteith (age 16) was sent to Durham, County Durham [Map] as one of the hostages for the safe return of King James I of Scotland (age 28).
Between 1424 and 1427 Malise Graham 3rd Earl Strathearn 1st Earl Menteith (age 20) was deprived of the Earldom of Strathearn on the grounds that it was a male fee ie only males can inherit.
In 1427 Malise Graham 3rd Earl Strathearn 1st Earl Menteith (age 20) was imprisoned at Pontefract Castle [Map] as a hostage for King James I of Scotland (age 32). He wasn't released until 1453.
On 06 Sep 1427 Malise Graham 3rd Earl Strathearn 1st Earl Menteith (age 20) was created 1st Earl Menteith, with remainder to the heirs male of his body, probably in compensation for the loss of the Earldom of Strathearn.
Around 1434 [his mother] Eupheme Stewart 2nd Countess of Strathearn and Caithness died. Her son Malise Graham 3rd Earl Strathearn 1st Earl Menteith (age 27) succeeded Earl Strathearn.
Around 1472 [his son] Alexander Graham 2nd Earl Menteith was born to Malise Graham 3rd Earl Strathearn 1st Earl Menteith (age 65).
On 08 Dec 1485 Malise Graham 3rd Earl Strathearn 1st Earl Menteith (age 78) died. His son [his son] Alexander Graham 2nd Earl Menteith (age 13) succeeded 2nd Earl Menteith.
