On 14 Mar 1647 Frederick Henry Orange Nassau II Prince Orange (age 63) died. His son William Orange Nassau II Prince Orange (age 20) succeeded II Prince Orange. Mary Stewart Princess Orange (age 15) by marriage Princess Orange. Evelyn's Diary. 10 Sep 1677. His lady (age 43) (being one of the Brederode's daughters, grandchild to a natural son of Henry Frederick, Prince of Orange) [Note. Evelyn confused here. Elisabeth Nassau Beverweert Countess Arlington (age 43) was the daughter of Louis Nassau Beverweert who was the illegitimate son of Prince Maurice I of Orange. Frederick Henry Orange Nassau II Prince Orange was the younger brother of Prince Maurice I of Orange.] is a good-natured and obliging woman. They love fine things, and to live easily, pompously, and hospitably; but, with so vast expense, as plunges my Lord (age 59) into debts exceedingly. My Lord (age 59) himself is given into no expensive vice but building, and to have all things rich, polite, and princely. He never plays, but reads much, having the Latin, French, and Spanish tongues in perfection. He has traveled much, and is the best bred and courtly person his Majesty (age 47) has about him, so as the public Ministers more frequent him than any of the rest of the nobility. While he was Secretary of State and Prime Minister, he had gotten vastly, but spent it as hastily, even before he had established a fund to maintain his greatness; and now beginning to decline in favor (the Duke being no great friend of his), he knows not how to retrench. He was son of a Doctor of Laws, whom I have seen, and, being sent from Westminster School to Oxford, with intention to be a divine, and parson of Arlington, a village near Brentford, when Master of Arts the Rebellion falling out, he followed the King's (age 47) Army, and receiving an HONORABLE WOUND IN THE FACE, grew into favor, and was advanced from a mean fortune, at his Majesty's (age 47) Restoration, to be an Earl and Knight of the Garter, Lord Chamberlain of the Household, and first favorite for a long time, during which the King (age 47) married his natural son, the Duke of Grafton (age 13), to his only daughter (age 9) and heiress, as before mentioned, worthy for her beauty and virtue of the greatest prince in Christendom. My Lord is, besides this, a prudent and understanding person in business, and speaks well; unfortunate yet in those he has advanced, most of them proving ungrateful. The many obligations and civilities I have received from this noble gentleman, extracts from me this character, and I am sorry he is in no better circumstances.

In Oct 1607 Horace de Vere 1st Baron Vere (age 42) and Mary Tracy Baroness Spencer Tilbury (age 26) were married. Autobiograph Simon D'Ewes. 14 Dec 1622. The first part of the holidays, and some part of the same month foregoing, (my father, with the rest of his family, taking his journey into Surrey, to my brother Elliot's, on Saturday, the 14th day of the same month,) I was out of commons, into which I came not again, till the beginning of the next month; intending, before I enter into the discourse thereof, to set down a short abstract of the further prevailing of the bloody Emperor, the second Ferdinand, and of the Popish armies in Germany, this summer past until the end of December. Here Count Mansfield (age 42) and Christian Duke of Brunswick (age 23) were severally profligated and quite overthrown by Tilly and Corduba: whilst, in the mean season, the city itself of Heidelburg and the castle came into the power of the enemy; the city being first taken by assault on the 6th (16th) day of September, which brought with it innumerable rapes, murders, and cruelties; and the castle, by composition, the 10th (20th) of the same month following. Here was a world of wealth gotten by the bloody soldier, besides that inestimable library of ancient manuscripts aod other rarities, which was most of it carried away to Rome; the loss of it to the Protestant party being irreparable. From Heidelborg, Tilly removed with his army to that inexpugnable [invicible] fort of Manheim, being part also of the Prince Palatine's dominions; and, after some six weeks' siege, took it by composition. Sir Horace Vere (age 57), Knt., a great and ancient soldier and very nobly extracted, giving it up by reason he and the garrison were by that time reduced to great extremity, without all hope of relief from England or Germany. Around Jul 1625 Horace de Vere 1st Baron Vere (age 60) was created 1st Baron Vere of Tilbury. Mary Tracy Baroness Spencer Tilbury (age 44) by marriage Baroness Vere of Tilbury. On 02 May 1635 Horace de Vere 1st Baron Vere (age 70) died. Baron Vere of Tilbury extinct. On 08 May 1635 Horace de Vere 1st Baron Vere (deceased) was buried at Westminster Abbey.

Prince Maurice I of Orange: On 13 Nov 1567 he was born to William "The Silent" Orange Nassau I Prince Orange (age 34) and Anna of Saxony (age 22). In 1612 Prince Maurice I of Orange (age 44) was appointed 409th Knight of the Garter by King James I of England and Ireland and VI of Scotland (age 45).. On 20 Feb 1618 Philip William Orange Nassau I Prince Orange (age 63) died. His brother Prince Maurice I of Orange (age 50) succeeded I Prince Orange. Evelyn's Diary. 17 Aug 1641. I passed again through Delft, and visited the church in which was the monument of Prince William of Nassau, - the first of the Williams, and saviour (as they call him) of their liberty, which cost him his life by a vile assassination. It is a piece of rare art, consisting of several figures, as big as the life, in copper. There is in the same place a magnificent tomb of his son and successor, Maurice. The Senate-house hath a very stately portico, supported with choice columns of black marble, as I remember, of one entire stone. Within, there hangs a weighty vessel of wood, not unlike a butter-churn, which the adventurous woman that hath two husbands at one time is to wear on her shoulders, her head peeping out at the top only, and so led about the town, as a penance for her incontinence. From hence, we went the next day to Itvswick, a stately country-house of the Prince of Orange, for nothing more remarkable than the delicious walks planted with lime trees, and the modern paintings within.

On 27 Jun 1641 Michiel Janszoon van Mierevelt (age 75) died.
