On 03 Jan 1622 Humphrey Winch 1st Baronet was born to Onslow Winch of Everton, Bedfordshire and Judith Burgoyne (age 20).
Before 1650 Humphrey Winch 1st Baronet (age 27) and Rebecca Browne (age 16) were married.
After 1650 [his daughter] Mary Winch Lady Bickley was born to Humphrey Winch 1st Baronet (age 27) and [his wife] Rebecca Browne (age 17).
In 1660 Humphrey Winch 1st Baronet (age 37) was elected MP Bedford.
On 09 Jun 1660 Humphrey Winch 1st Baronet (age 38) was created 1st Baronet Winch of Hawnes in Bedfordshire.
Before 08 Sep 1660 [his daughter] Rebecca Winch was born to Humphrey Winch 1st Baronet (age 38) and [his wife] Rebecca Browne (age 27).
In 1661 Humphrey Winch 1st Baronet (age 38) was elected MP Bedfordshire which seat he held until 1679.
Evelyn's Diary. 22 Dec 1664. I went to the launching of a new ship of two bottoms, invented by Sir William Petty (age 41), on which were various opinions; his Majesty (age 34) being present, gave her the name of the "Experiment": so I returned home, where I found Sir Humphry Winch (age 42), who spent the day with me.
In 1667 Humphrey Winch 1st Baronet (age 44) sold the Hawnes estate to George Carteret 1st Baronet (age 57) and moved to Herleyford Manor, Great Marlow.
Around 1667 [his son-in-law] Francis Bickley 3rd Baronet (age 22) and [his daughter] Mary Winch Lady Bickley (age 16) were married.
Around 1670 [his son-in-law] Thomas Lawley 3rd Baronet (age 20) and [his daughter] Rebecca Winch (age 9) were married. They had fourteen children of which only three survived to adulthood.
Evelyn's Diary. 26 May 1671. The Earl of Bristol's (age 58) house in Queen's Street was taken for the Commissioners of Trade and Plantations, and furnished with rich hangings of the King's (age 40). It consisted of seven rooms on a floor, with a long gallery, gardens, etc. This day we met the Duke of Buckingham (age 43), Earl of Lauderdale (age 55), Lord Culpeper, Sir George Carteret (age 61), Vice-Chamberlain, and myself, had the oaths given us by the Earl of Sandwich (age 45), our President. It was to advise and counsel his Majesty (age 40), to the best of our abilities, for the well-governing of his Foreign Plantations, etc., the form very little differing from that given to the Privy Council. We then took our places at the Board in the Council-Chamber, a very large room furnished with atlases, maps, charts, globes, etc. Then came the Lord Keeper, Sir Orlando Bridgeman (age 65), Earl of Arlington (age 53), Secretary of State, Lord Ashley, Mr. Treasurer (age 40), Sir John Trevor (age 34), the other Secretary, Sir John Duncomb (age 49), Lord Allington (age 31), Mr. Grey, son to the Lord Grey, Mr. Henry Broncher, Sir Humphrey Winch (age 49), Sir John Finch, Mr. Waller (age 65), and Colonel Titus (age 48), of the bedchamber, with Mr. Slingsby, Secretary to the Council, and two Clerks of the Council, who had all been sworn some days before. Being all set, our Patent was read, and then the additional Patent, in which was recited this new establishment; then, was delivered to each a copy of the Patent, and of instructions: after which, we proceeded to business.
Evelyn's Diary. 08 Nov 1672. At Council, we debated the business of the consulate of Leghorn. I was of the committee with Sir Humphry Winch (age 50), the chairman, to examine the laws of his Majesty's (age 42) several plantations and colonies in the West Indies, etc.
On 26 Nov 1672 [his son-in-law] Humphrey Forster 2nd Baronet (age 23) and [his daughter] Judith Winch Lady Forster were married at St Margaret's Church, Westminster [Map]. She by marriage Lady Forster of Aldermaston in Berkshire.
In 1679 Humphrey Winch 1st Baronet (age 56) was appointed Lord Commisioner of the Admiralty.
In 1679 Humphrey Winch 1st Baronet (age 56) was elected MP Great Marlow which seat he held until 1681.
Evelyn's Diary. 25 Jun 1679. The new Commissioners of the Admiralty came to visit me, viz, Sir Henry Capell (age 41), brother to the Earl of Essex (age 47), Mr. Finch (age 31), eldest son to the Lord Chancellor (age 57), Sir Humphry Winch (age 57), Sir Thomas Meeres (age 45), Mr. Hales, with some of the Commissioners of the Navy. I went with them to London.
In 1685 [his daughter] Mary Winch Lady Bickley (age 34) died.
In 1685 Humphrey Winch 1st Baronet (age 62) was elected MP Great Marlow which seat he held until 1689.
On 05 Dec 1703 Humphrey Winch 1st Baronet (age 81) died. He was buried at All Saints' Church, Branston [Map]. Baronet Winch of Hawnes in Bedfordshire extinct although his nephew Humphrey Winch of Branston, Lincolnshire, erroneously assumed the title.
On 03 Mar 1712 [his former wife] Rebecca Browne (age 79) died. She was buried at All Saints' Church, Branston [Map].
Rebecca Browne: Around 1633 she was born to Alderman Martin Browne. Before 1650 Humphrey Winch 1st Baronet and she were married.
On 22 Jan 1716 [his brother] Richard Winch died. He was buried at All Saints' Church, Branston [Map]. The description of his being a Baronet on his grave slab appears to be a mistake since his brother Humphrey Winch 1st Baronet was the Baronet.
