Biography of John Brookes 1st Baronet 1636-1691

On or before 09 Jun 1636 John Brookes 1st Baronet was born to James Brookes of York. He was baptised on 09 Jun 1636 at St Martin le Grand Church, York.

In 1662 John Brookes 1st Baronet (age 25) was elected Fellow of the Royal Society; he was expelled in 1685.

In 1667 William Petty (age 43) and [his future sister-in-law] Elizabeth Waller 1st Baroness Shelburne (age 31) were married.

On 01 Aug 1671 Henry Cadogan (age 29) and [his future sister-in-law] Bridget Waller (age 32) were married.

In or before 1675 John Brookes 1st Baronet (age 38) and Mary Waller were married. They had four sons and seven daughters.

Around 1675 [his son] James Brookes 2nd Baronet  1675-1742 was born to John Brookes 1st Baronet (age 38) and [his wife] Mary Waller.

On 13 Jun 1676 John Brookes 1st Baronet (age 40) was created 1st Baronet Brookes of York in Yorkshire.

In 1679 John Brookes 1st Baronet (age 42) was elected MP Boroughbridge.

In 1681 John Brookes 1st Baronet (age 44) was elected MP Boroughbridge.

On 13 Dec 1688 [his sister-in-law] Elizabeth Waller 1st Baroness Shelburne (age 52) was created 1st Baroness Shelburne for life only by King James II of England Scotland and Ireland (age 55). Her son Charles Petty 1st Baron Shelburne (age 15) was created 1st Baron Shelburne.

On 18 Nov 1691 John Brookes 1st Baronet (age 55) died. He was buried at St Martin le Grand Church, York. His son [his son] James Brookes 2nd Baronet  1675-1742 (age 16) succeeded 2nd Baronet Brookes of York in Yorkshire.
