Biography of Tancred Robinson 3rd Baronet 1685-1754

On 08 Sep 1679 [his father] William Robinson 1st Baronet (age 23) and [his mother] Mary Aislabie were married.

Around 1685 Tancred Robinson 3rd Baronet was born to William Robinson 1st Baronet (age 29) and Mary Aislabie.

In 1690 [his father] William Robinson 1st Baronet (age 34) was created 1st Baronet Robinson of Newby in Yorkshire. His uncle Metcalfe Robinson 1st Baronet, who had died without issue the previous year, was the first and last Baronet Robinson of Newby in Yorkshire of the first creation.

In or before 1694 Tancred Robinson 3rd Baronet (age 9) and Mary Norton Lady Robinson were married. They had three sons (the eldest of whom predeceased him) and four daughters.

In 1707 Tancred Robinson 3rd Baronet (age 22) was made commanding officer of HMS Solebay.

In 1708 Tancred Robinson 3rd Baronet (age 23) was made commanding officer of the ship Gosport.

In 1710 Tancred Robinson 3rd Baronet (age 25) was made commanding officer of HMS Deptford.

In 1712 Tancred Robinson 3rd Baronet (age 27) was made commanding officer of the ship Winchester which position he held until 1714.

In 1713 [his son] William Robinson 4th Baronet was born to Tancred Robinson 3rd Baronet (age 28) and [his wife] Mary Norton Lady Robinson.

Around 1715 [his son] Norton Robinson 5th Baronet was born to Tancred Robinson 3rd Baronet (age 30) and [his wife] Mary Norton Lady Robinson.

In 1716 Tancred Robinson 3rd Baronet (age 31) was made commanding officer of HMS Dreadnought which position he held until 1718.

In 1718 Tancred Robinson 3rd Baronet (age 33) was appointed Lord Mayor of York.

In 1734 Tancred Robinson 3rd Baronet (age 49) was made commanding officer of the ship Brittania which position he held until 1736.

In 1736 Tancred Robinson 3rd Baronet (age 51) was made Rear-Admiral of the Blue Squadron.

On 22 Dec 1736 [his father] William Robinson 1st Baronet (age 81) died. He was buried at St Columba's Church, Topcliffe [Map]. His son [his brother] Metcalfe Robinson 2nd Baronet succeeded 2nd Baronet Robinson of Newby in Yorkshire although he died four days later.

On 26 Dec 1736 [his brother] Metcalfe Robinson 2nd Baronet died. His brother Tancred Robinson 3rd Baronet (age 51) succeeded 3rd Baronet Robinson of Newby in Yorkshire. [his wife] Mary Norton Lady Robinson by marriage Lady Robinson of Newby in Yorkshire.

In 1738 Tancred Robinson 3rd Baronet (age 53) was appointed Lord Mayor of York.

In 1739 Tancred Robinson 3rd Baronet (age 54) was made Rear-Admiral of the White Squadron.

In 1741 Tancred Robinson 3rd Baronet (age 56) retired from the Navy.

In 1748 [his wife] Mary Norton Lady Robinson died. She was buried at St Crux Church, York.

On 02 Sep 1754 Tancred Robinson 3rd Baronet (age 69) died. He was buried at St Crux Church, York where there was a sarcophagus with Lord Mayor's regalia in relief on side, surmounted by seated cherub with portrait medallion, cross-staff, anchors, cannon etc., obelisk-shaped marble slab behind with cartouche-of-arms of Robinson with escutcheon of pretence of Norton, and below shaped apron with inscription, signed Robt. Avray Eboraci Sculpt. His son [his son] William Robinson 4th Baronet (age 41) succeeded 4th Baronet Robinson of Newby in Yorkshire.
