William Compton 1st Earl of Northampton was born to Henry Compton 1st Baron Compton and Frances Hastings Baroness Compton.

In 1572 [his father] Henry Compton 1st Baron Compton [aged 27] was created 1st Baron Compton of Compton in Warwickshire.

Before 1574 [his father] Henry Compton 1st Baron Compton [aged 29] and [his mother] Frances Hastings Baroness Compton [aged 40] were married. She by marriage Baroness Compton of Compton in Warwickshire. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Francis Hastings 2nd Earl Huntingdon and [his grandmother] Catherine Pole Countess Huntingdon [aged 62]. He the son of Peter Compton and Anne Talbot Countess Pembroke [aged 50]. They were third cousin once removed. He a great x 5 grandson of King Edward III of England.

In 1574 [his mother] Frances Hastings Baroness Compton [aged 41] died.

After 10th November 1581 [his father] Henry Compton 1st Baron Compton [aged 37] and Anne Spencer Countess Dorset were married. She by marriage Baroness Compton of Compton in Warwickshire. He the son of [his grandfather] Peter Compton and [his grandmother] Anne Talbot Countess Pembroke [aged 58].

On 10th December 1589 [his father] Henry Compton 1st Baron Compton [aged 45] died. His son William succeeded 2nd Baron Compton of Compton in Warwickshire.

In 1599 William Compton 1st Earl of Northampton and Elizabeth Spencer Countess Northampton [aged 23] were married. She by marriage Baroness Compton of Compton in Warwickshire.

In March 1599 [his father-in-law] John Spencer was imprisoned ostensibly for having mis-treated his daughter albeit the accuser was William Compton 1st Earl of Northampton who was trying to marry the said daughter much to William's disapproval at Fleet Prison [Map].

In May 1601 [his son] Spencer Compton 2nd Earl of Northampton was born to William Compton 1st Earl of Northampton and [his wife] Elizabeth Spencer Countess Northampton [aged 25]. He married before 19th August 1622 Mary Beaumont Countess of Northampton and had issue.

Diary of Anne Clifford. 18th May 1616. Upon the 18th being Saturday in the morning my Lord [aged 27] and I having much talk about these businesses, we agreed that Mr Marsh should go presently down to my Mother and that by him I should write a letter to persuade her to give over her jointure presently to my Lord and that he would give her yearly as much as it was worth.

This day my Lord went from Knole to London.1

Note 1. N.B—my Lord was at London when my mother died but he went to Lewes before he heard of her death.

Upon the 20th went my Child to W. Horsley with Mary Neville and Mr Bathurst from London. Mary Hicken was with her, for still she lain in bed with Lady Margaret.

Upon the 24th being Friday between the hours of 6 and 9 at night died my dear Mother at Broome [Map] in the same chamber where my Father was born, 13 years and 2 months after the death of Queen Elizabeth and 10 years and 7 months after the death of my Father, I being 26 years old and 5 months and the Child 2 years old wanting a month.

At this great meeting at Lewes my Lord Compton (Note: afterwards 1st Earl of Northampton), my [his former brother-in-law] Lord Merdaunt (Note: married Lord Compton's [his half-sister] sister), Tom Neville, John Herbert and all that Crew with Wat. Raleigh [aged 62], Jack Laurie, and a multitude of such company were there.

There was much Bull Baiting, Bowling, Cards and Dice, with suchlike sports to entertain the time.

In 1622 [his son-in-law] Ulick Burke 1st Marquess Clanricarde [aged 18] and Anne Compton Lady Rushout were married. She the daughter of William Compton 1st Earl of Northampton and Elizabeth Spencer Countess Northampton [aged 46]. He the son of Richard Burke 4th Earl Clanricarde 1st Earl St Albans [aged 50] and Frances Walsingham Countess Essex [aged 55].

Before 19th August 1622 Spencer Compton 2nd Earl of Northampton [aged 21] and Mary Beaumont Countess of Northampton [aged 18] were married. He the son of William Compton 1st Earl of Northampton and Elizabeth Spencer Countess Northampton [aged 47].

In 1628 William Compton 1st Earl of Northampton was appointed 427th Knight of the Garter by King Charles I of England, Scotland and Ireland [aged 27].

On 24th June 1630 William Compton 1st Earl of Northampton died. His son Spencer [aged 29] succeeded 2nd Earl of Northampton, 3rd Baron Compton of Compton in Warwickshire. Mary Beaumont Countess of Northampton [aged 26] by marriage Countess of Northampton.

On 8th May 1632 [his former wife] Elizabeth Spencer Countess Northampton [aged 56] died.

[his daughter] Anne Compton Lady Rushout was born to William Compton 1st Earl of Northampton and Elizabeth Spencer Countess Northampton. She married 1622 Ulick Burke 1st Marquess Clanricarde, son of Richard Burke 4th Earl Clanricarde 1st Earl St Albans and Frances Walsingham Countess Essex, and had issue.
