Paternal Family Tree: Barcelona

On 2nd February 1208 James I King Aragon was born to Peter II King Aragon [aged 29] and Marie Montpellier Queen Consort Aragon.

The Battle of Muret, the last major battle of the Albigensian Crusade, was fought on 12th September 1213 between the armies of [his father] Peter II King Aragon [aged 35] and Simon "Elder" Montfort 5th Earl of Leicester [aged 38]. The Argonese forces were heavily defeated. Peter II King Aragon was killed. His son James [aged 5] succeeded I King Aragon.

In 1229 [his son] Alfonso Barcelona was born to James I King Aragon [aged 20] and Eleanor Ivrea Queen Consort Aragon. He a great grandson of King Henry "Curtmantle" II of England. He married 23rd March 1260 Constance Béarn.

In 1240 [his son] Peter III King Aragon was born to James I King Aragon [aged 31] and Violant Árpád Queen Consort Aragon [aged 25]. He married his fifth cousin once removed Constance Hohenstaufen Queen Consort Aragon and had issue.

In 1248 [his daughter] Isabella Barcelona Queen Consort France was born to James I King Aragon [aged 39] and Violant Árpád Queen Consort Aragon [aged 33]. She married 28th May 1262 her second cousin once removed King Philip III of France and had issue.

In 1249 [his son-in-law] Alfonso X King Castile X King Leon [aged 27] and Violante Barcelona Queen Consort Castile Queen Consort Leon were married. She the daughter of James I King Aragon [aged 40] and Violant Árpád Queen Consort Aragon [aged 34]. He the son of Ferdinand III King Castile III King Leon [aged 50] and Elisabeth Hohenstaufen Queen Consort Castile Queen Consort Leon. They were half third cousins. He a great x 2 grandson of King Henry "Curtmantle" II of England.

On 23rd March 1260 Alfonso Barcelona [aged 31] and Constance Béarn were married. He died three days later. He the son of James I King Aragon [aged 52] and Eleanor Ivrea Queen Consort Aragon.

On 26th March 1260 [his son] Alfonso Barcelona [aged 31] died.

William of Worcester's Chronicle of England

William of Worcester, born around 1415, and died around 1482 was secretary to John Fastolf, the renowned soldier of the Hundred Years War, during which time he collected documents, letters, and wrote a record of events. Following their return to England in 1440 William was witness to major events. Twice in his chronicle he uses the first person: 1. when writing about the murder of Thomas, 7th Baron Scales, in 1460, he writes '… and I saw him lying naked in the cemetery near the porch of the church of St. Mary Overie in Southwark …' and 2. describing King Edward IV's entry into London in 1461 he writes '… proclaimed that all the people themselves were to recognize and acknowledge Edward as king. I was present and heard this, and immediately went down with them into the city'. William’s Chronicle is rich in detail. It is the source of much information about the Wars of the Roses, including the term 'Diabolical Marriage' to describe the marriage of Queen Elizabeth Woodville’s brother John’s marriage to Katherine, Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, he aged twenty, she sixty-five or more, and the story about a paper crown being placed in mockery on the severed head of Richard, 3rd Duke of York.

On 28th May 1262 [his son-in-law] King Philip III of France [aged 17] and Isabella Barcelona Queen Consort France [aged 14] were married. She the daughter of James I King Aragon [aged 54] and Violant Árpád Queen Consort Aragon. He the son of King Louis IX of France [aged 48] and Margaret Provence Queen Consort France [aged 41]. They were second cousin once removed. He a great x 2 grandson of King Henry "Curtmantle" II of England.

On 28th January 1271 [his daughter] Isabella Barcelona Queen Consort France [aged 23] died.

On 27th July 1276 James I King Aragon [aged 68] died. His son Peter [aged 36] succeeded III King Aragon.

[his father] Peter II King Aragon and [his mother] Marie Montpellier Queen Consort Aragon were married. She by marriage Queen Consort Aragon. He the son of [his grandfather] Alfonso II King Aragon and [his grandmother] Sancha Ivrea Queen Consort Aragon.
