Horatio Nelson 1st Viscount Nelson 1758-1805

On 29th September 1758 Horatio Nelson 1st Viscount Nelson was born to Reverend Edmund Nelson [aged 36].

On 9th November 1786 [his brother] Reverend William Nelson 1st Earl Nelson [aged 29] and [his sister-in-law] Sarah Yonge Countess Nelson [aged 37] were married.

On 29th January 1801 [his illegitimate daughter] Horatia Nelson was born illegitimately to Horatio Nelson 1st Viscount Nelson [aged 42] and Amy Lyon aka Emma Hart Lady Hamilton [aged 35].

THE King has been pleased to grant the Dignity of a Viscount of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland to the Right Honorable Horatio Baron Nelson [aged 42], Knight of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath, and Vice-Admiral of the Blue Squadron of His. Majesty's Fleet, and the Heirs Male of his Body lawfully begotten, by the Name, Style, and Title of Viscount Nelson of the Nile, and of Burnlinm Thorpe, in the County of Norfolk.

The King has also been pleased to nominate and appoint Thomas Graves, Esq; Rear-Admiral of the White, to be one of the Knights Companions of the Most Honomble Order of the Bath.

The King has been pleased to grant the Dignity of a Baron of the United Kingdom of Great Britaintain and Ireland, to the Right Honorable Horatio Viscount Nelson [aged 42], Knight of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath, and Vice-Admiral of the Blue Squadron of His Majesty's Fleet, (Duke of Bronti in Sicily, Knight of the Grand Cross of the Order of St. Ferdinand and of Merit, and of the Imperial Order of the Crescent,) and to the Heirs Male of his Body, lawfully begotten, by the Name, Stile, and Title of Baron Nelson, of the Nile, and of Hilborough, in the County of Norfolk; with Remainders to [his father] Edmund Nelson [aged 79], Clerk, Rector of Burnham Thorpe, in the said County of Norfolk, Father of the said Horatio Viscount Nelson, and the Heirs Male of his Body, lawfully begotten; and to the Heirs Male lawfully begotten, and to be begotten, severally and successively of Susanna [aged 46] the Wife of Thomas Bolton, Esq; and Sister of the said Horatio Viscount Nelson; and in Default of such Issue, to the Heirs Male of Catherine the Wife of George Matcham, Esq; another sister of the said Horatio Viscount Nelson.

On 21st October 1805 Horatio Nelson 1st Viscount Nelson [aged 47] was killed in action at the Battle of Trafalgar. Viscount Nelson of the Nile and Burnham Thorpe in Norfolk extinct. His brother William [aged 48] succeeded 2nd Baron Nelson of the Nile and Hillborough in Norfolk.

The London Gazette 15881. 8th January 1806. The Remains of the late Right Honorable Horatio Viscount and Baron Nelson, K. B. Vice-Admiral of the White Squadron of His Majesty's Fleet, were conveyed from the Royal Hospital of Greenwich [Map] […] to the Admiralty. His body was accompanied by four mourning barges on a procession on the River Thames. Located in the third barge, his body was "Covered with a large Sheet, and a Pall of Velvet adorned with Six Escocheons.".

On 9th January 1806 the funeral of Horatio Nelson 1st Viscount Nelson was held at St Paul's Cathedral [Map].
