2nd. 1644. Thomas Savile 1st Earl of Sussex. Extinct. 1671.

3rd. 5th October 1674. Thomas Lennard 1st Earl of Sussex. Extinct. 30th October 1715.

4th. 1717. Talbot Yelverton 1st Earl of Sussex. Extinct. 22nd April 1799.

Earl of Sussex 1st Creation 1529

Summary

8th December 1529. 1st. Robert Radclyffe 1st Earl of Sussex [aged 46] created. See Henry VIII Creates New Peerages.

27th November 1542. 2nd. Son Henry Radclyffe 2nd Earl of Sussex [aged 35] succeeded.

17th February 1557. 3rd. Son Thomas Radclyffe 3rd Earl of Sussex [aged 32] succeeded.

9th June 1583. 4th. Brother Henry Radclyffe 4th Earl of Sussex [aged 51] succeeded.

14th December 1593. 5th. Son Robert Radclyffe 5th Earl of Sussex [aged 20] succeeded.

22nd September 1629. 6th. First Cousin Once Removed Edward Radclyffe 6th Earl of Sussex [aged 70] succeeded.

August 1643. 6th. Edward Radclyffe 6th Earl of Sussex extinct.

Before 1st September 1532 Robert Radclyffe 1st Earl of Sussex [aged 49] and Margaret Stanley Countess Sussex were married. She by marriage Countess of Sussex. She the daughter of Thomas Stanley 2nd Earl of Derby and Anne Hastings Countess Derby [aged 47]. They were fourth cousins. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

On 27th November 1542 Robert Radclyffe 1st Earl of Sussex [aged 59] died. His son Henry [aged 35] succeeded 2nd Earl of Sussex, 2nd Viscount Fitzwalter, 11th Baron Fitzwalter. Anne Calthorpe 2nd Countess Sussex [aged 21] by marriage Countess of Sussex.

On 17th February 1557 Henry Radclyffe 2nd Earl of Sussex [aged 50] died. He was buried at St Lawrence Pountney Church. His son Thomas [aged 32] succeeded 3rd Earl of Sussex, 3rd Viscount Fitzwalter, 12th Baron Fitzwalter. Frances Sidney Countess Sussex [aged 26] by marriage Countess of Sussex.

On 9th June 1583 Thomas Radclyffe 3rd Earl of Sussex [aged 58] died. His brother Henry [aged 51] succeeded 4th Earl of Sussex, 4th Viscount Fitzwalter, 13th Baron Fitzwalter. Honora Pound Viscountess Fitzwalter by marriage Countess of Sussex.

On 14th December 1593 Henry Radclyffe 4th Earl of Sussex [aged 61] died. He was buried at Boreham, Essex [Map]. His son Robert [aged 20] succeeded 5th Earl of Sussex, 5th Viscount Fitzwalter, 14th Baron Fitzwalter.

Before 1594 Edward Radclyffe 6th Earl of Sussex [aged 34] and Elizabeth Petre Countess Sussex [aged 56] were married. She by marriage Countess of Sussex. The difference in their ages was 22 years; she, unusually, being older than him.

In 1594 Edward Radclyffe 6th Earl of Sussex [aged 35] and Jane Hynde Countess Sussex [aged 29] were married. She by marriage Countess of Sussex.

Before 12th October 1602 Robert Radclyffe 5th Earl of Sussex [aged 29] and Bridget Morrison Countess Sussex were married. She by marriage Countess of Sussex. He the son of Henry Radclyffe 4th Earl of Sussex and Honora Pound Viscountess Fitzwalter.

In DEc 1623 Robert Radclyffe 5th Earl of Sussex [aged 50] and Frances Meautys Countess of Sussex [aged 38] were married. She by marriage Countess of Sussex. He the son of Henry Radclyffe 4th Earl of Sussex and Honora Pound Viscountess Fitzwalter.

On 22nd September 1629 Robert Radclyffe 5th Earl of Sussex [aged 56] died at Clerkenwell [Map]. His first cousin once removed Edward [aged 70] succeeded 6th Earl of Sussex, 6th Viscount Fitzwalter. His half first cousin Henry [aged 44] de jure 15th Baron Fitzwalter.

In August 1643 Edward Radclyffe 6th Earl of Sussex [aged 84] died. Earl of Sussex, Viscount Fitzwalter extinct.

Earl of Sussex 2nd Creation 1644

Summary

1644. 1st. Thomas Savile 1st Earl of Sussex [aged 53] created.

1659. 2nd. Son James Savile 2nd Earl of Sussex [aged 12] succeeded.

1671. 2nd. James Savile 2nd Earl of Sussex extinct.

Around 1659 Thomas Savile 1st Earl of Sussex [aged 68] died. His son James [aged 12] succeeded 2nd Earl of Sussex, 3rd Baron Savile of Pomfret.

In 1671 James Savile 2nd Earl of Sussex [aged 24] died without issue. Earl of Sussex and Baron Savile of Pomfret extinct.

Earl of Sussex 3rd Creation 1674

Summary

5th October 1674. 1st. Thomas Lennard 1st Earl of Sussex [aged 20] created.

30th October 1715. 1st. Thomas Lennard 1st Earl of Sussex extinct.

On 5th October 1674 Thomas Lennard 1st Earl of Sussex [aged 20] was created 1st Earl of Sussex. Anne Fitzroy Countess Sussex [aged 13] by marriage Countess of Sussex.

On 30th October 1715 Thomas Lennard 1st Earl of Sussex [aged 61] died. Earl of Sussex extinct. Baron Dacre Gilsland abeyant.

Earl of Sussex 4th Creation 1717

Summary

1717. 1st. Talbot Yelverton 1st Earl of Sussex [aged 26] created.

27th October 1731. 2nd. Son George Augustus Yelverton 2nd Earl of Sussex [aged 4] succeeded.

8th January 1758. 3rd. Brother Henry Yelverton 3rd Earl of Sussex [aged 29] succeeded.

22nd April 1799. 3rd. Henry Yelverton 3rd Earl of Sussex extinct.

In 1717 Talbot Yelverton 1st Earl of Sussex [aged 26] was created 1st Earl of Sussex.

Before 27th July 1727 Talbot Yelverton 1st Earl of Sussex [aged 37] and Lucy Pelham Countess Sussex were married. She by marriage Countess of Sussex. They were fifth cousins.

On 22nd April 1799 Henry Yelverton 3rd Earl of Sussex [aged 70] died without suviving male issue. Earl of Sussex and Viscount Longueville and Baronet Yelverton of Easton Maudit in Northamptonshire extinct. His grandson Henry [aged 18] succeeded 19th Baron Grey of Ruthyn. Note. Many sources describe his death as 1779 which would be inconsistent with Henry Gould Yelverton 19th Baron Grey Ruthyn succeeding.
