On 27th April 1847 [his grandfather] Henry Wellesley 1st Baron Cowley [aged 74] died. His son [his father] Henry [aged 42] succeeded 2nd Baron Cowley.
On 11th April 1857 [his father] Henry Richard Charles Wellesley 1st Earl Cowley [aged 52] was created 1st Earl Cowley, 1st Viscount Dangan of Meath.
In 1863 [his brother-in-law] Charles Philip "Champagne Charlie" Yorke 5th Earl of Hardwicke [aged 26] and [his sister] Sophia Georgiana Robertina Wellesley Countess Hardwicke [aged 22] were married. She the daughter of [his father] Henry Richard Charles Wellesley 1st Earl Cowley [aged 58]. He the son of Charles Yorke 4th Earl of Hardwicke [aged 63] and Susan Liddell Countess Hardwicke [aged 52].
On 8th August 1863 [his brother] William Henry Wellesley 2nd Earl Cowley [aged 28] and [his sister-in-law] Emily Gwendoline Williams Countess Cowley [aged 24] were married. He the son of [his father] Henry Richard Charles Wellesley 1st Earl Cowley [aged 59].
In 1873 Frederick Arthur Wellesley [aged 28] and Emma Loftus were married. He the son of Henry Richard Charles Wellesley 1st Earl Cowley [aged 68].
On 17th September 1873 Charles Yorke 4th Earl of Hardwicke [aged 74] died. His son [his brother-in-law] Charles [aged 37] succeeded 5th Earl Hardwicke, 5th Viscount Royston. Charles Yorke 4th Earl of Hardwicke: On 2nd April 1799 he was born to Admiral Joseph Sydney Yorke and Elizabeth Weake Rattray at Sydney Lodge, Hamble le Rice. In August 1833 Charles Yorke 4th Earl of Hardwicke and Susan Liddell Countess Hardwicke were married. On 18th November 1834 Philip Yorke 3rd Earl of Hardwicke died. He was buried in St Andrew's Church, Wimpole [Map]. His nephew Charles succeeded 4th Earl Hardwicke, 4th Viscount Royston. Susan Liddell Countess Hardwicke by marriage Countess Hardwicke.
Charles Philip "Champagne Charlie" Yorke 5th Earl of Hardwicke: On 23rd April 1836 he was born to Charles Yorke 4th Earl of Hardwicke and Susan Liddell Countess Hardwicke. In 1863 Charles Philip "Champagne Charlie" Yorke 5th Earl of Hardwicke and Sophia Georgiana Robertina Wellesley Countess Hardwicke were married. She the daughter of Henry Richard Charles Wellesley 1st Earl Cowley. He the son of Charles Yorke 4th Earl of Hardwicke and Susan Liddell Countess Hardwicke. On 18th May 1897 Charles Philip "Champagne Charlie" Yorke 5th Earl of Hardwicke died. His son Albert succeeded 6th Earl Hardwicke, 6th Viscount Royston.
Sophia Georgiana Robertina Wellesley Countess Hardwicke: On 3rd March 1840 she was born to Henry Richard Charles Wellesley 1st Earl Cowley. On 3rd June 1923 Sophia Georgiana Robertina Wellesley Countess Hardwicke died.
In 1874 [his brother-in-law] Francis Bertie 1st Viscount Bertie Thame [aged 29] and [his sister] Feodorowna Cecilia Wellesley Viscountess Bertie Thame [aged 36] were married. She the daughter of [his father] Henry Richard Charles Wellesley 1st Earl Cowley [aged 69]. He the son of Montagu Bertie 6th Earl of Abingdon [aged 65] and Elizabeth Lavinia Harcourt Countess Abingdon.
In 1882 Frederick Arthur Wellesley [aged 37] and Emma Loftus were divorced.
This is a translation of the 'Memoires of Jacques du Clercq', published in 1823 in two volumes, edited by Frederic, Baron de Reissenberg. In his introduction Reissenberg writes: 'Jacques du Clercq tells us that he was born in 1424, and that he was a licentiate in law and a counsellor to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in the castellany of Douai, Lille, and Orchies. It appears that he established his residence at Arras. In 1446, he married the daughter of Baldwin de la Lacherie, a gentleman who lived in Lille. We read in the fifth book of his Memoirs that his father, also named Jacques du Clercq, had married a lady of the Le Camelin family, from Compiègne. His ancestors, always attached to the counts of Flanders, had constantly served them, whether in their councils or in their armies.' The Memoires cover a period of nineteen years beginning in in 1448, ending in in 1467. It appears that the author had intended to extend the Memoirs beyond that date; no doubt illness or death prevented him from carrying out this plan. As Reissenberg writes the 'merit of this work lies in the simplicity of its narrative, in its tone of good faith, and in a certain air of frankness which naturally wins the reader’s confidence.' Du Clercq ranges from events of national and international importance, including events of the Wars of the Roses in England, to simple, everyday local events such as marriages, robberies, murders, trials and deaths, including that of his own father in Book 5; one of his last entries.

On 13th August 1884 Arthur Wellesley 2nd Duke Wellington [aged 77] died. His nephew Henry [aged 38] succeeded 3rd Duke Wellington, 7th Earl Mornington, 7th Viscount Wellesley of Dangan Castle, 3rd Viscount Wellington of Talavera. [his future wife] Evelyn Katrine Gwenfra Williams Duchess Wellington [aged 29] by marriage Duchess Wellington.
On 28th February 1895 [his brother] William Henry Wellesley 2nd Earl Cowley [aged 60] died at Shute Manor Draycott, Wiltshire. His son [his nephew] Henry [aged 29] succeeded 3rd Earl Cowley, 3rd Viscount Dangan of Meath, 4th Baron Cowley. Violet Neville Countess Cowley [aged 28] by marriage Countess Cowley.
On 21st February 1903 [his wife] Kate Vaughan [aged 51] died.
In 1904 Frederick Arthur Wellesley [aged 59] and Evelyn Katrine Gwenfra Williams Duchess Wellington [aged 49] were married. He the son of Henry Richard Charles Wellesley 1st Earl Cowley.
On 30th March 1920 [his sister] Feodorowna Cecilia Wellesley Viscountess Bertie Thame [aged 82] died.
On 3rd June 1923 [his sister] Sophia Georgiana Robertina Wellesley Countess Hardwicke [aged 83] died.
On 9th February 1931 Frederick Arthur Wellesley [aged 86] died.
Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke
Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson.
