On 19th July 1876 [her father] Hamilton John Agmondesham Cuffe 5th Earl of Desart [aged 27] and [her mother] Margaret Joan Lascelles Countess of Desart [aged 22] were married. She by marriage Countess Desart. She the daughter of [her grandfather] Henry Thynne Lascelles 4th Earl Harewood [aged 52] and [her grandmother] Elizabeth Joanna Burgh. He the son of John Cuffe 3rd Earl Desart and Elizabeth Lucy Campbell Countess Desart [aged 54]. They were second cousins.
Around December 1879 Sybil Cuffe was born to Hamilton John Agmondesham Cuffe 5th Earl of Desart [aged 31] and Margaret Joan Lascelles Countess of Desart [aged 26]. Coefficient of inbreeding 1.57%.
On 15th September 1898 [her uncle] William Ulick O'Connor Cuffe 4th Earl of Desart [aged 53] died. His brother [her father] Hamilton [aged 50] succeeded 5th Earl Desart.
On 30th April 1901 William Bayard Cutting [aged 22] and Sybil Cuffe [aged 21] were married at All Saints' Church, London. She the daughter of Hamilton John Agmondesham Cuffe 5th Earl of Desart [aged 52] and Margaret Joan Lascelles Countess of Desart [aged 47].
On 10th March 1910 [her husband] William Bayard Cutting [aged 31] died of tuberculosis in Aswan, Egypt. He was buried at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York.
In 1916 Geoffrey Scott [aged 31] and Sybil Cuffe [aged 36] were married. She the daughter of Hamilton John Agmondesham Cuffe 5th Earl of Desart [aged 67] and Margaret Joan Lascelles Countess of Desart [aged 62].
In 1926 Percy Lubbock [aged 47] and Sybil Cuffe [aged 46] were married. She the daughter of Hamilton John Agmondesham Cuffe 5th Earl of Desart [aged 77] and Margaret Joan Lascelles Countess of Desart [aged 72].
In 1926 Geoffrey Scott [aged 41] and Sybil Cuffe [aged 46] were divorced.
On 19th September 1927 [her mother] Margaret Joan Lascelles Countess of Desart [aged 73] died.
Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough
A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'
