Maternal Family Tree: Agnes Leslie Countess Morton 1542-
On 10th October 1675 [his father] Robert Ker 3rd Earl Roxburghe [aged 17] and [his mother] Margaret Hay Countess Roxburghe were married. She by marriage Countess Roxburghe. She the daughter of [his grandfather] John Hay 1st Marquess Tweeddale [aged 50] and [his grandmother] Jean Scott Marchioness Tweddale. He the son of William Ker 2nd Earl Roxburghe and Jane Ker Countess Roxburgh. They were second cousin once removed.
On 30th April 1680 John Ker 1st Duke Roxburghe was born to Robert Ker 3rd Earl Roxburghe [aged 22] and Margaret Hay Countess Roxburghe.
On 6th May 1682 The Gloucester sank during a strong gale when it struck a sandbank twenty-eight miles off Great Yarmouth, Norfolk [Map] on a journey from Portsmouth to Edinburgh. Of the estimated 330 people on board it is believed between 130 and 250 sailors and passengers perished.
The Duke of York [aged 48] [the future King James II] and John Churchill 1st Duke of Marlborough [aged 31] were rescued in the ship's boat.
[his father] Robert Ker 3rd Earl Roxburghe [aged 24] drowned. His son [his brother] Robert [aged 5] succeeded 4th Earl Roxburghe.
John Hope of Hopetoun drowned. He gave up his seat in a lifeboat to the future King James II of England Scotland and Ireland for which his son was rewarded with an Earldom twenty-one years later when he came of age.
Richard Hill drowned.
The pilot James Ayres was blamed for the disaster. The Duke of York wished him to be hanged immediately. He was court-martialled and imprisoned.
On 2nd April 1695 William Savile 2nd Marquess Halifax [aged 30] and [his future wife] Mary Finch Duchess Roxburghe [aged 18] were married. She by marriage Marchioness Halifax. She the daughter of [his future father-in-law] Daniel Finch 2nd Earl Nottingham 7th Earl Winchilsea [aged 47] and Essex Rich Countess Nottingham. He the son of George Savile 1st Marquess Halifax [aged 61] and Dorothy Spencer Lady Savile. They were fourth cousins.
In 1696 Robert Ker 4th Earl Roxburghe [aged 19] died unmarried. His brother John [aged 15] succeeded 5th Earl Roxburghe.
In 1707 John Ker 1st Duke Roxburghe [aged 26] was created 1st Duke Roxburghe.
Before 1709 John Ker 1st Duke Roxburghe [aged 28] and Mary Finch Duchess Roxburghe [aged 31] were married. She by marriage Duchess Roxburghe. She the daughter of Daniel Finch 2nd Earl Nottingham 7th Earl Winchilsea [aged 61] and Essex Rich Countess Nottingham. He the son of Robert Ker 3rd Earl Roxburghe and Margaret Hay Countess Roxburghe.
Around 1709 [his son] Robert Ker 2nd Duke Roxburghe was born to John Ker 1st Duke Roxburghe [aged 28] and [his wife] Mary Finch Duchess Roxburghe [aged 32]. He married 16th June 1739 his half first cousin Essex Mostyn Duchess Roxburghe and had issue.
On 21st March 1720 Richard Boyle 3rd Earl Burlington [aged 25] and [his step-daughter] Dorothy Savile Countess Burlington [aged 21] were married. She by marriage Countess Burlington. She the daughter of William Savile 2nd Marquess Halifax and [his wife] Mary Finch Duchess Roxburghe [aged 43]. He the son of Charles Boyle 2nd Earl Burlington and Juliana Noel Countess Burlington [aged 48]. They were fourth cousin once removed.
In 1722 John Ker 1st Duke Roxburghe [aged 41] was appointed 541st Knight of the Garter by King George I [aged 61]..
Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses
Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

On 16th June 1739 Robert Ker 2nd Duke Roxburghe [aged 30] and Essex Mostyn Duchess Roxburghe were married. He the son of John Ker 1st Duke Roxburghe [aged 59] and Mary Finch Duchess Roxburghe [aged 62]. They were half first cousins.
On 27th February 1741 John Ker 1st Duke Roxburghe [aged 60] died. His son Robert [aged 32] succeeded 2nd Duke Roxburghe. Essex Mostyn Duchess Roxburghe by marriage Duchess Roxburghe.
