In 1932 [his father] Henry John Innes-Kerr 8th Duke Roxburghe [aged 56] died. His son George [aged 18] succeeded 9th Duke Roxburghe.
On 24th October 1935 George Victor Robert John Innes-Kerr 9th Duke Roxburghe [aged 22] and Mary Evelyn Hungerford Crewe Milnes Duchess Roxburghe [aged 20] were married. She by marriage Duchess Roxburghe. She the daughter of Robert Offley Ashburton Crewe Milnes 1st Marquess of Crewe [aged 77] and Margaret Etrenne Hannah "Peggy" Primrose Marchioness Crewe [aged 54]. He the son of Henry John Innes-Kerr 8th Duke Roxburghe.
In 1953 George Victor Robert John Innes-Kerr 9th Duke Roxburghe [aged 39] and [his wife] Mary Evelyn Hungerford Crewe Milnes Duchess Roxburghe [aged 38] were divored.
On 5th January 1954 George Victor Robert John Innes-Kerr 9th Duke Roxburghe [aged 40] and Margaret Elizabeth Mcconnel Duchess Roxburghe [aged 35] were married. She by marriage Duchess Roxburghe. He the son of Henry John Innes-Kerr 8th Duke Roxburghe.
On 18th November 1954 [his son] Guy David Innes-Kerr 10th Duke Roxburghe was born to George Victor Robert John Innes-Kerr 9th Duke Roxburghe [aged 41] and [his wife] Margaret Elizabeth Mcconnel Duchess Roxburghe [aged 35]. He married 10th September 1977 Jane Meriel Grosvenor Duchess Roxburghe, daughter of Robert George Grosvenor 5th Duke Westminster and Viola Maud Lyttelton Duchess Westminster.
On 28th May 1959 [his son] Robert Anthony Innes-Kerr was born to George Victor Robert John Innes-Kerr 9th Duke Roxburghe [aged 45] and [his wife] Margaret Elizabeth Mcconnel Duchess Roxburghe [aged 40].
On 26th September 1974 George Victor Robert John Innes-Kerr 9th Duke Roxburghe [aged 61] died. His son Guy [aged 19] succeeded 10th Duke Roxburghe.
On 2nd June 1983 [his former wife] Margaret Elizabeth Mcconnel Duchess Roxburghe [aged 64] died.
This is a translation of the 'Memoires of Jacques du Clercq', published in 1823 in two volumes, edited by Frederic, Baron de Reissenberg. In his introduction Reissenberg writes: 'Jacques du Clercq tells us that he was born in 1424, and that he was a licentiate in law and a counsellor to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in the castellany of Douai, Lille, and Orchies. It appears that he established his residence at Arras. In 1446, he married the daughter of Baldwin de la Lacherie, a gentleman who lived in Lille. We read in the fifth book of his Memoirs that his father, also named Jacques du Clercq, had married a lady of the Le Camelin family, from Compiègne. His ancestors, always attached to the counts of Flanders, had constantly served them, whether in their councils or in their armies.' The Memoires cover a period of nineteen years beginning in in 1448, ending in in 1467. It appears that the author had intended to extend the Memoirs beyond that date; no doubt illness or death prevented him from carrying out this plan. As Reissenberg writes the 'merit of this work lies in the simplicity of its narrative, in its tone of good faith, and in a certain air of frankness which naturally wins the reader’s confidence.' Du Clercq ranges from events of national and international importance, including events of the Wars of the Roses in England, to simple, everyday local events such as marriages, robberies, murders, trials and deaths, including that of his own father in Book 5; one of his last entries.
