Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

On 8th January 1499 Louis XII King France [aged 36] and Anne of Brittany Queen Consort France [aged 21] were married at Nantes [Map]. She by marriage Queen Consort of France. Her second marriage to a King of France having been first married to Charles VIII King France. The French Crown was determined to acquire Brittany. Louis and Anne's daughter Claude married King Francis I of France [aged 4] by which Brittany was later merged with the Crown of France when he became King. On 14th October 1499 [her daughter] Claude Valois Orléans Queen Consort France was born to [her husband] Louis XII King France [aged 37] and Anne of Brittany Queen Consort France [aged 22]. Coefficient of inbreeding 5.00%. She married 18th May 1514 her second cousin King Francis I of France, son of Charles Valois Orléans Count Angoulême and Louise of Savoy Countess Angoulême, and had issue.

She the last of the de Montfort family to hold the title (the Montfort family is a scion the Capet family; her father was descended from Louis VII King of the Franks. [her daughter] Claude Valois Orléans Queen Consort France [aged 14] succeeded I Duchess Brittany.

Thomas Grey 2nd Marquess Dorset [aged 37], Thomas West 8th Baron De La Warr 5th Baron West [aged 57], Thomas Brooke 8th Baron Cobham [aged 44] and his son George Brooke 9th Baron Cobham [aged 17], Bishop Thomas Ruthall [aged 42] and Margaret Wotton Marchioness Dorset [aged 27] attended. The difference in their ages was 33 years. She the daughter of King Henry VII of England and Ireland and Elizabeth York Queen Consort England. He the son of Charles Valois Duke Orléans and Mary de la Marck Duchess Orléans. They were second cousin twice removed.
