On 24 Mar 1493 William Cunningham 4th Earl Glencairn was born to Cuthbert Cunningham 3rd Earl Glencairn (age 16).

In or before 1515 William Cunningham 4th Earl Glencairn (age 21) and Catherine Borthwick were married. He the son of Cuthbert Cunningham 3rd Earl Glencairn (age 38).

Battle of Linlithgow Bridge

On 04 Sep 1526 the Battle of Linlithgow Bridge was fought between supporters of Margaret Tudor Queen Scotland (age 36), the king's mother, commanded by John Stewart 3rd Earl Lennox (age 36) and supporters of Archibald Douglas 6th Earl Angus (age 37) commanded by James Hamilton 1st Earl Arran (age 51), over who would have control over King James V of Scotland (age 14) in his minority.

John Stewart 3rd Earl Lennox (age 36) was killed possibly after surrendering. His son Matthew Stewart 4th Earl Lennox (age 9) succeeded 4th Earl Lennox.

William Cunningham 4th Earl Glencairn (age 33) was captured.

On 23 May 1541 [his father] Cuthbert Cunningham 3rd Earl Glencairn (age 64) died. His son William Cunningham 4th Earl Glencairn (age 48) succeeded 4th Earl Glencairn.

Battle of Solway Moss

On 25 Nov 1542 Thomas Wharton 1st Baron Wharton (age 47) commanded the English forces at Battle of Solway Moss at Solway Moss, Cumberland [Map]. John Thynne (age 27) fought. Of the Scottish army Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming (age 48), Gilbert Kennedy 3rd Earl Cassilis (age 27) and Laurence Oliphant 3rd Lord Oliphant fought.

William Graham 3rd Earl Menteith (age 42) was captured. He was ransomed in 1453.

William Cunningham 4th Earl Glencairn (age 49) was captured and committed to the custody of Thomas Howard 3rd Duke of Norfolk (age 69). He was released on payment of a ransom of a thousand pounds and subscribing by his own hand to support Henry VIII's (age 51) project of a marriage between the young King Edward VI of England and Ireland (age 5) and the Mary Queen of Scots.

Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming (age 48) was captured.

Second Battle of Glasgow

Around 24 May 1544 the Second Battle of Glasgow was fought between James Hamilton 2nd Earl Arran (age 28), who opposed a marriage between King Edward VI of England and Ireland (age 6) and Mary Queen of Scots (age 1), and an army of James Hamilton 2nd Earl Arran (age 28) who supported the marriage. and William Cunningham 4th Earl Glencairn (age 51)

[his son] Andrew Cunningham was killed.

In Mar 1548 William Cunningham 4th Earl Glencairn (age 54) died. His son [his son] Alexander Cunningham 5th Earl Glencairn succeeded 5th Earl Glencairn. Janet Hamilton Countess Glencairn by marriage Countess Glencairn.
