On 08 Aug 1503 King James IV of Scotland (age 30) and [her mother] Margaret Tudor (age 13) were married at Holyrood Abbey, Holyrood. Thomas Howard 2nd Duke of Norfolk (age 60) and James Hamilton 1st Earl Arran (age 28) were present. She the daughter of King Henry VII of England and Ireland (age 46) and Elizabeth York Queen Consort England. He the son of King James III of Scotland and Margaret Oldenburg Queen Consort Scotland. They were third cousins. He a great x 4 grandson of King Edward III of England.

Cuthbert Cunningham 3rd Earl Glencairn (age 27) was restored 3rd Earl Glencairn.

Battle of Linlithgow Bridge

On 04 Sep 1526 the Battle of Linlithgow Bridge was fought between supporters of [her mother] Margaret Tudor Queen Scotland (age 36), the king's mother, commanded by John Stewart 3rd Earl Lennox (age 36) and supporters of [her father] Archibald Douglas 6th Earl Angus (age 37) commanded by James Hamilton 1st Earl Arran (age 51), over who would have control over [her half-brother] King James V of Scotland (age 14) in his minority.

John Stewart 3rd Earl Lennox (age 36) was killed possibly after surrendering. His son [her future husband] Matthew Stewart 4th Earl Lennox (age 9) succeeded 4th Earl Lennox.

William Cunningham 4th Earl Glencairn (age 33) was captured.

On 03 Mar 1528 [her step-father] Henry Stewart 1st Lord Methven (age 33) and [her mother] Margaret Tudor Queen Scotland (age 38) were married. She the daughter of King Henry VII of England and Ireland and Elizabeth York Queen Consort England.

In 1535 Thomas Howard (age 24) and Margaret Douglas Countess Lennox (age 19) were married in secret. In May 1536 the marriage of [her husband] Thomas Howard (age 25) and Margaret Douglas Countess Lennox (age 20) was discovered by [her uncle] King Henry VIII (age 44). She, Margaret Douglas Countess Lennox (age 20) was next in line of the succession at the time of the discovery. Henry promptly enacted retrospective legislation and imprisoned both Thomas and Margaret in the Tower of London [Map]. Thomas was attainted and remained in the Tower of London [Map] until his death a year later.

Hall's Chronicle 1536. Around Jun 1536. In the Parliament season Lord [her husband] Thomas Howard (age 25) without the King’s assent affianced the Lady Margarete Douglas (age 20) daughter to the [her mother] Queen of Scottes (age 46)Margaret Tudor Queen Scotland (age 46) and near to the King (age 44) for which presumptuous act he was attainted of treason, and an Act made for like offenders, and so he died in the Tower [Map], and she was long there as a prisoner.

18 Jul 1536. Attainder of Lord Thomas Howard 1536 28 Hen 8 c24 by which [her husband] Thomas Howard (age 25) was attainted for having married the [her uncle] King's (age 45) niece Margaret Douglas Countess Lennox (age 20) in secret thereby attempting to "interrupt ympedyte and lett the seid Succession of the Crowne" (she, Margaret Douglas Countess Lennox (age 20), was heir to the throne at the time). The Act sentenced Howard to death although it wasn't implemented.

Before 12 Jul 1537 [her brother-in-law] Edmund Howard (age 59) and Margaret Mundy (age 27) were married. The difference in their ages was 32 years. He the son of Thomas Howard 2nd Duke of Norfolk and Elizabeth Tilney Countess of Surrey.

Wriothesley's Chronicle 1537. 31 Oct 1537. This yeare, on All Hallowe Even, the Lord [her husband] Thomas Howarde (age 26), brother to the [her brother-in-law] Duke of Northfolke (age 64), died in prison in the Tower of London, and his bodie was caried to Thetforde, and there buried.

Allso the Ladie Margarett Duglas (age 22), that had lyen in prison in the Tower of London for love betwene him and her, was pardoned by the King and sett agayne at her libertie; howbeit, she tooke his death very heavilie.1

Note 1. In 1644 she married [her future husband] Matthew fourth Earl of Lennox (age 21), and became Conntess of Lennox, and mother of [her son] Darnley.

On 31 Oct 1537 [her husband] Thomas Howard (age 26) died at the Tower of London [Map]. His body was released to his mother [her mother-in-law] Agnes Tilney Duchess Norfolk (age 60). He was buried at Thetford Priory, Norfolk [Map].

On 19 Mar 1539 [her former brother-in-law] Edmund Howard (age 61) died.

On 18 Oct 1541 [her mother] Margaret Tudor Queen Scotland (age 51) died at Methven Castle, Methven. She was buried at Carthusian Charterhouse, Perth.

Around 1543 [her father] Archibald Douglas 6th Earl Angus (age 54) and Margaret Maxwell Countess Angus were married. She by marriage Countess Angus.

Marriage of Henry VIII and Catherine Parr

On 12 Jul 1543 [her uncle] Henry VIII (age 52) and Catherine Parr (age 30) were married at Hampton Court Palace [Map]. She was crowned Queen Consort England. His sixth and last marriage, her third marriage; her previous husband had died four months before. The difference in their ages was 21 years. He the son of King Henry VII of England and Ireland and Elizabeth York Queen Consort England. They were third cousin once removed. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

Henry's two daughters Mary (age 27) and Elizabeth (age 9) attended, as did his niece Margaret Douglas Countess Lennox (age 27).

Catherine's sister Anne (age 28) attended with her husband William Herbert 1st Earl Pembroke (age 42).

On 06 Jul 1544 Matthew Stewart 4th Earl Lennox (age 27) and Margaret Douglas Countess Lennox (age 28) were married. She by marriage Countess Lennox. On 07 Dec 1545 [her son] Henry "Lord Darnley" Stewart was born to [her husband] Matthew Stewart 4th Earl Lennox (age 29) and Margaret Douglas Countess Lennox (age 30). He a great grandson of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

Wriothesley's Chronicle 1551. 04 Nov 1551. The 4 of November the sayd Quene (age 35) rode from the sayd place to the Kinges pallace at Whitehall by Westminster in hir charyot, accompanyed with diuers knightes and gentlemen, carles and lordes, the Lady Margaret Dowglas (age 36), the Duches of Richmond (age 32), the Duches of Suffolke (age 32), the Duches of Northumberland (age 42), with diuers other noble women of England and ladyes of Scotland followinge after them; the Dukes of Northumberland (age 47) and Suffolke and the Lord Treasurer (age 68) receivinge her within the Court gate, all the guard standinge on euery syde of the Court; and at her entringe in at the hall the Kinges Maiestie (age 14) stode in the upper ende of the hall, the Earle of Warwicke (age 24) [Note. assumed to be referring to the subsiduary title of the Duke of Northumberland] houldinge the sworde afore the Kinge; she kneelinge downe, the Kinges Maiestie tooke her up and, kissinge her, he tooke her by the hand, she comminge with him, he led her up into the chamber of presence, and so from thence to the Queues chamber of presence, where he kissed all the ladyes of Scotland, and so departed for a while; and that daye she dyned on the Quenes syde with the Kinges Maiestie, the Kinges service and hers comminge both togeather, richely serued in gylt plate; the Kinges seruice on the right hand of the table, and the Quenes on the left hand, she sittinge by the Kinge apart by his cloth of estate; the goodly cupbord of plate of gould and gylte that day there occupyed, with the rich hanginges and costly meates, was wondrous to see. All the ladyes of England and Scotland dyned in the Quenes great chamber, and were serued in siluer all theyr meates; dinner ended, the Kinges Maiestie shewed her his galleries and gardens, with other commodityes of that place; and about foure of the clocke he brought her downe againe by the hand into the hall, where he received her and there kissed hir, and so she departed to the Bishops house againe to Pawles in lyke manner as she went thither.

On 22 Jan 1557 [her father] Archibald Douglas 6th Earl Angus (age 68) died at Tantallon Castle. His nephew David Douglas 7th Earl Angus (age 42) succeeded 7th Earl Angus.

Around May 1557 [her son] Charles Stewart 5th Earl Lennox was born to [her husband] Matthew Stewart 4th Earl Lennox (age 40) and Margaret Douglas Countess Lennox (age 41). He a great grandson of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

On 29 Jul 1565 [her son] Henry "Lord Darnley" Stewart (age 19) and [her daughter-in-law] Mary Queen of Scots (age 22) were married at Holyrood Palace, Holyrood. She the daughter of King James V of Scotland and Mary of Guise Queen Consort Scotland. He the son of Matthew Stewart 4th Earl Lennox (age 48) and Margaret Douglas Countess Lennox (age 49). On 12 Jan 1573 [her former brother-in-law] William Howard 1st Baron Howard (age 63) died at Hampton Court Palace, Richmond [Map]. He was buried at Reigate, Surrey [Map]. In 1574 [her son] Charles Stewart 5th Earl Lennox (age 16) and [her daughter-in-law] Elizabeth Cavendish Countess Lennox (age 18) were married. She by marriage Countess Lennox. She the daughter of William Cavendish and Bess of Hardwick Countess Shrewsbury and Waterford (age 47). He the son of Matthew Stewart 4th Earl Lennox and Margaret Douglas Countess Lennox (age 58).
