In 1369 [his father] Gruffudd Fychan II Mathrafal (age 39) died.

Around 1375 [his son] Gruffudd ab Owain Glyndŵr Mathrafal was born to Owain ap Gruffudd "Glyndŵr" Mathrafal Prince Powys (age 16) and Margaret Hamner (age 5).

Scrope vs Grosvenor Case

In Sep 1389 the Scrope vs Grosvenor Case was brought to the Court of Chivalry. Up to that time two families, Scrope and Grosvenor, had been using the armorial Scrope Arms: Azure, a bend or.

Several hundred witnesses were called including John of Gaunt 1st Duke Lancaster (age 49), Geoffrey Chaucer (age 46) and John Savile of Shelley and Golcar (age 64).

On 03 Sep 1386 Owain ap Gruffudd "Glyndŵr" Mathrafal Prince Powys (age 27) gave evidence at the Church of John the Baptist, Chester [Map].

The Court decided in favour of Scrope.

Neither party was happy with the decision so King Richard II (age 22) was called upon to give his personal verdict.

On 27 May 1390 he confirmed that Grosvenor could not bear the undifferenced arms.

As a consequence of the case the Grosvenor has for many years used the name Bendor for horses and nicknames.

Around 1400 [his mother] Elen (age 60) died.

On 16 Sep 1400 Owain ap Gruffudd "Glyndŵr" Mathrafal Prince Powys (age 41) was appointed Prince Powys.

Battle of Bryn Glas

On 22 Jun 1402 Owain ap Gruffudd "Glyndŵr" Mathrafal Prince Powys (age 43) defeated the army of [his future son-in-law] Edmund Mortimer (age 25) at Knighton, Radnorshire [Map], who was captured, at the Battle of Bryn Glas.

King Henry IV of England (age 35) made no attempt to ransom Edmund Mortimer (age 25) and, as a consequence, Edmund Mortimer (age 25) changed his allegiance, and subsequently married Owain's (age 43) daughter.

On 25 Jun 1402 Walter Devereux (age 41) died from wounds.

Battle of Homildon Hill

On 14 Sep 1402 Henry Percy 1st Earl of Northumberland (age 60) and his son Henry "Hotspur" Percy (age 38) lay in wait at Homildon Hill [Map] for the Scots to return from their laying waste to Northumberland. The Battle of Homildon Hill was a victory for the English forces whose longbowmen decimated the Scottish schiltrons. Henry Fitzhugh 3rd Baron Fitzhugh (age 44) fought for the English.

John Swinton was killed.

Thomas Dunbar 2nd Earl Moray (age 31) and Henry Sinclair 2nd Earl Orkney (age 27) were captured.

Archibald Douglas 1st Duke Touraine (age 30) was wounded. King Henry IV of England (age 35) forbade the ransoming of Scottish prisoners so that he could concentrate on the Welsh. By doing so he created a rift with the Percy family who subsequently defected to Owain ap Gruffudd Glyndŵr (age 43).

William Stewart of Jedworth and Teviotdale (age 46) was executed by Henry "Hotspur" Percy (age 38) having been captured.

John Stewart 1st of Dalswinton and Garlies (age 32) fought at the Battle of Homildon Hill.

On 30 Nov 1402 [his son-in-law] Edmund Mortimer (age 25) and [his daughter] Catrin Mathrafal were married. She the daughter of Owain ap Gruffudd "Glyndŵr" Mathrafal Prince Powys (age 43) and Margaret Hamner (age 32). He the son of Edmund Mortimer 3rd Earl March, Earl Ulster and Philippa Plantagenet Countess March 5th Countess Ulster. He a great grandson of King Edward III of England. She a great x 4 granddaughter of King Edward "Longshanks" I of England.

In Jul 1403 Owain ap Gruffudd "Glyndŵr" Mathrafal Prince Powys (age 44) attacked Carreg Cennen Castle [Map] with an army of eight hundred men but failed to take the castle it being defended by John Scudamore (age 20) who subsequently married one of Owain's (age 44) daughters [his daughter] Alys Mathrafal.

In 1404 Owain ap Gruffudd "Glyndŵr" Mathrafal Prince Powys (age 45) was appointed Prince of Wales.

Battle of Pwll Melyn aka Usk

Around May 1405 Richard Grey 1st or 4th Baron Grey of Codnor (age 34) and Dafydd Gam Brecon (age 25) decisively defeated the Welsh army at the Battle of Pwll Melyn aka Usk. [his son] Gruffudd ab Owain Glyndŵr Mathrafal (age 30) was captured. [his brother] Tudur ap Gruffudd Mathrafal Lord Gwyddelwern (age 48) was killed. The Welsh lost around 1500 men with 300 prisoners being beheaded following the battle. The battle marked the beginning of the end of Owain Glyndŵr's (age 46) revolt.

Around 1412 [his son] Gruffudd ab Owain Glyndŵr Mathrafal (age 37) died at Tower of London [Map].
