On 3rd April 1370 [his brother] Bishop Henry Despencer [aged 29] was appointed Bishop of Norwich.

He married before 7th November 1379 his third cousin once removed Constance York Countess Gloucester, daughter of Edmund of Langley 1st Duke of York and Isabella of Castile Duchess York, and had issue.

On 11th November 1375 Edward Despencer 1st Baron Despencer, Baron Burghesh [aged 40] died at Llanblethian. He was buried at Tewkesbury Abbey [Map]. His son Thomas [aged 2] succeeded 2nd Baron Despencer.
