His son [his father] William Warenne 5th Earl Surrey succeeded 5th Earl Surrey and inherited his estates including Conisbrough Castle [Map]. He undertook further building work including the Great Hall and service buildings in the Inner Bailey. [his mother] Maud Marshal Countess Norfolk and Surrey (age 8) by marriage Countess Surrey.

Around Dec 1206 Hugh Bigod 3rd Earl Norfolk (age 24) and [his mother] Maud Marshal Countess Norfolk and Surrey (age 12) were married. She the daughter of William Marshal 1st Earl Pembroke (age 60) and Isabel Clare Countess Pembroke (age 34). He the son of Roger Bigod 2nd Earl Norfolk (age 62) and Ida Tosny Countess Norfolk (age 50). They were third cousins.

In 1231 John Warenne 6th Earl Surrey was born to William Warenne 5th Earl Surrey and Maud Marshal Countess Norfolk and Surrey (age 37).

On 27 May 1240 [his father] William Warenne 5th Earl Surrey died. His son John Warenne 6th Earl Surrey (age 9) succeeded 6th Earl Surrey and inherited his estates including Conisbrough Castle [Map].

In 1247 John Warenne 6th Earl Surrey (age 16) and Alice Lusignan Countess of Surrey (age 23) were married. She by marriage Countess Surrey. Battle of Lewes

King Henry III of England (age 56), his son the future King Edward "Longshanks" I of England (age 24), Humphrey Bohun 2nd Earl Hereford 1st Earl Essex (age 60), [his former brother-in-law] Richard of Cornwall 1st Earl Cornwall (age 55), John "Red" Comyn 1st Lord Baddenoch (age 44), Philip Marmion 5th Baron Marmion (age 30) and John Giffard 1st Baron Giffard Brimpsfield (age 32) were captured. John Warenne 6th Earl Surrey (age 33), John Balliol (age 56), Robert Bruce 5th Lord Annandale (age 49), Roger Leybourne (age 49) and [his former brother-in-law] William de Valence 1st Earl Pembroke fought for the King. [his former brother-in-law] Guy Lusignan was killed. Fulk IV Fitzwarin (age 44) drowned. Bishop Walter de Cantelupe (age 73) was present and blessed the Montfort army before the battle.

Battle of Chesterfield

On 15 May 1266 Henry "Almain" Cornwall (age 30) and John Warenne 6th Earl Surrey (age 35) fought for the King at Chesterfield [Map] during the Battle of Chesterfield. Henry Hastings (age 31), John Clinton, Roger Mandeville, John Eyvil, Baldwin Wake (age 28) all fought on the rebel side. The rebel Robert Ferrers 6th Earl of Derby (age 27) was captured.

After 07 Apr 1269 [his former sister-in-law] Agatha Lusignan (age 46) died.

Before 25 Mar 1273 [his former son-in-law] Henry Percy 7th Baron Percy Topcliffe and [his daughter] Eleanor Warenne Baroness Percy Topcliffe were married. She by marriage Baroness Percy of Topcliffe. She the daughter of John Warenne 6th Earl Surrey (age 42) and Alice Lusignan Countess of Surrey.

Marriage of King John of Scotland and Isabella Warenne

On 09 Feb 1281 [his son-in-law] John "Empty Coat" I King Scotland (age 32) and [his daughter] Isabella Warenne were married. She the daughter of John Warenne 6th Earl Surrey (age 50) and Alice Lusignan Countess of Surrey. They were fourth cousins. He a great x 5 grandson of King Henry I "Beauclerc" England.

On 15 Dec 1286 [his son] William Warenne was killed in a tournament.

Battle of Dunbar

On 27 Apr 1296 Battle of Dunbar was fought between John Warenne 6th Earl Surrey (age 65) and [his son-in-law] John "Empty Coat" I King Scotland (age 47), his son in law. John Strathbogie 9th Earl Atholl (age 30) and John Comyn 3rd Earl Buchan were captured. The English routed the disorganised Scots in a single charge. Few died; many were captured.

Battle of Stirling Bridge

On 11 Sep 1297 the combined forces of Andrew Moray and William Wallace defeated the forces of John Warenne 6th Earl Surrey (age 66) near Stirling Bridge, Stirling during the Battle of Stirling Bridge. After around half the English had crossed the narrow bridge the Scots attacked subjecting the English to a significant defeat.

Battle of Falkirk

On 22 Jul 1298 King Edward "Longshanks" I of England (age 59) defeated the Scottish army led by William Wallace during the Battle of Falkirk at Falkirk [Map] using archers to firstly attack the Scottish shiltrons with the heavy cavalry with infantry completing the defeat.
