Sign manual to the lord Dacres of the North, commanding him not to molest those who served the earl of Cumberland (age 35), late warden of the West Marches, but let them enjoy their farms till the quinzaine of St. Michael. Hertford castle, 26 June.

My lord of Richmond (age 9) is in good health and merry. Since the beginning of this sweat he has lain in a private place with few attendants, but has now come hither. He lately paid a visit for one night to my lord of Northumberland, who pressed him to come and see his house at Topcliff, and conducted himself more like a man than a child of his tender age. Cannot be at London this term, as lady Salisbury expects; but my Lord's receiver and auditor in the South are instructed to search for evidences touching Canford. The lord Dacre (age 35) called here on his way South to see the King. There is great business between him and the earl of Cumberland (age 35) about the rule of the town and castle of Carlisle, which Magnus thinks should be annexed to the wardenry.

Sir Will. Parre, who is or will be with Wolsey this term, will show him what he has done in reducing my lord of Richmond's household to better order and less charges. Sheriffhutton, 7 Oct.

Wriothesley's Chronicle 1530-1539. 09 Jul 1534. Memorandum: the Lord Dakers (age 41),^c of the North Countrie, was pechid of highe treason, and sett in prison in the Tower of London [Map], and all his goods and landes were seised into the Kinges handes, which was great riches, and the 9th of Julye, 1534, he was arreigned at Westminstre, the Duke of Northfolke (age 61) sittinge then as high judge,^d and there he discharged himselfe of all that his accusers^e coulde alledge againste him, and so there he was quitt by a jurie of Lordes, and by the lawe allso.

Henry Machyn's Diary. 10 Jan 1553. The x day of January was the monyth myn of ser [his former son-in-law] (Thomas) Wynsor knyght, in the contey of (Buckingham?), with a harold and ys standard, ys penon of armes and ys cot armur, ys elmet, target, and sword, mantylles, and the crest a whyt hartes ede, hornes gold; and he was elldest sune unto the lord Wynsor (age 54) and here, and mared my lord Dakurs of the North (age 60) [his daughter] doythur (age 20)-the vj king Edward vj.

Note. Month's mind of sir Thomas Windsor. Son and heir apparent of William second lord Windsor. He was made a knight of the Bath at the coronation of Edward VI.; and married Dorothy (age 20), daughter of William lord Dacre, of Gillesland (age 60); but, as he had no issue male, the peerage went to a younger brother. Collins in his Peerage gives some extracts from his will, dated Nov. 8, 1552, and proved by his widow Jan. 16 following. His funeral probably took place at Bradenham in Buckinghamshire.

Henry Machyn's Diary. 25 Nov 1661. The xxv day of November was cared to the Towre the lord Dacurs of the North,-the v yer kyng Edward the vjt.

Diary of Edward VI. In Mr. Bowes' place¹ who was Warden of the West Marches, was put the lord Dacre; and in the lord Gray's place² the erle of Rutland, who after his comming entred Scoteland, and burnt divers villages, and toke moche pray.
