Biography of Randall MacDonnell 1st Marquess Antrim 1609-1683

In 1604 [his father] Randal "Arranach" Macdonnell 1st Earl Antrim and [his mother] Alice O'Neill Countess Antrim were married.

On 09 Jun 1609 Randall MacDonnell 1st Marquess Antrim was born to Randal "Arranach" Macdonnell 1st Earl Antrim and Alice O'Neill Countess Antrim.

In 1620 [his father] Randal "Arranach" Macdonnell 1st Earl Antrim was created 1st Earl Antrim 1C. [his mother] Alice O'Neill Countess Antrim by marriage Countess Antrim 1C.

On 16 May 1620 George Villiers 1st Duke of Buckingham (age 27) and [his future wife] Katherine Manners Duchess Buckingham (age 18) were married. She by marriage Countess Buckingham. She the daughter of Francis Manners 6th Earl of Rutland (age 42) and Frances Knyvet Lady Bevill. He the son of George Villiers of Brokesby and Mary Beaumont 1st Countess Buckingham (age 50).

On 17 Dec 1632 Francis Manners 6th Earl of Rutland (age 54) died at Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire [Map]. On 20 Feb 1633 he was buried at St Mary the Virgin Church, Bottesford, Leicestershire [Map]. His daughter [his future wife] Katherine Manners Duchess Buckingham (age 30) succeeded 18th Baroness Ros Helmsley. His brother George Manners 7th Earl of Rutland (age 52) succeeded 7th Earl of Rutland. Frances Carey Countess Rutland (age 61) by marriage Countess of Rutland.

In 1635 Randall MacDonnell 1st Marquess Antrim (age 25) and Katherine Manners Duchess Buckingham (age 32) were married. She the daughter of Francis Manners 6th Earl of Rutland and Frances Knyvet Lady Bevill. He the son of Randal "Arranach" Macdonnell 1st Earl Antrim and Alice O'Neill Countess Antrim.

On 10 Dec 1636 [his father] Randal "Arranach" Macdonnell 1st Earl Antrim died. His son Randall MacDonnell 1st Marquess Antrim (age 27) succeeded 2nd Earl Antrim 1C.

On 03 Aug 1637 James Stewart 4th Duke Lennox 1st Duke Richmond (age 25) and [his step-daughter] Mary Villiers Duchess Lennox Duchess Richmond (age 15) were married. She by marriage Duchess Lennox. She the daughter of George Villiers 1st Duke of Buckingham and Katherine Manners Duchess Buckingham (age 35). He the son of Esmé Stewart 3rd Duke Lennox and Katherine Clifton Duchess Lennox (age 45).

In 1645 Randall MacDonnell 1st Marquess Antrim (age 35) was created 1st Marquess of Antrim 1C.

On 07 Jul 1648 Kenelm Digby (age 23) and [his step-son] Francis Villiers (age 19) were killed.

In 1649 [his wife] Katherine Manners Duchess Buckingham (age 46) died. Her son [his step-son] George Villiers 2nd Duke of Buckingham (age 20) succeeded 19th Baron Ros Helmsley

On 15 Sep 1657 [his former step-son] George Villiers 2nd Duke of Buckingham (age 29) and Mary Fairfax Duchess Buckingham (age 19) were married. She by marriage Duchess of Buckingham. He the son of George Villiers 1st Duke of Buckingham and Katherine Manners Duchess Buckingham.

Pepy's Diary. 22 Feb 1664. That the King (age 33) hath done himself all imaginable wrong in the business of my Lord Antrim (age 54), in Ireland; who, though he was the head of rebels, yet he by his letter owns to have acted by his father's and mother's, and his commissions; but it seems the truth is, he hath obliged himself, upon the clearing of his estate, to settle it upon a daughter of the Queene-Mother's (age 25) (by my Lord Germin (age 58), I suppose,) in marriage, be it to whom the Queene (age 54) pleases; which is a sad story.

In Nov 1664 Captain Thomas Howard (age 33) and [his former step-daughter] Mary Villiers Duchess Lennox Duchess Richmond (age 42) were married. She the daughter of George Villiers 1st Duke of Buckingham and Katherine Manners Duchess Buckingham.

On 03 Feb 1683 Randall MacDonnell 1st Marquess Antrim (age 73) died. Marquess of Antrim 1C extinct. His brother [his brother] Alexander Macdonnell 3rd Earl Antrim (age 68) succeeded 3rd Earl Antrim 1C. Helena Burke Countess Antrim by marriage Countess Antrim 1C.
