On 21 May 1607 Philip Musgrave 2nd Baronet was born to Richard Musgrave 1st Baronet (age 22) and Frances Wharton.

Around 1632 [his son] Christopher Musgrave 4th Baronet was born to Philip Musgrave 2nd Baronet (age 24).

Short Parliament

In Apr 1640 Philip Musgrave 2nd Baronet (age 32) was elected MP Westmoreland in the Short Parliament.

Long Parliament

In Nov 1640 Philip Musgrave 2nd Baronet (age 33) was elected MP Westmoreland in the Long Parliament.

After 1643 Philip Musgrave 2nd Baronet (age 35) was appointed Governor of Carlisle Castle.

Battle of Marston Moor

On 02 Jul 1644 the Battle of Marston Moor was fought near Tockwith [Map] in Yorkshire. Alexander Seton aka Montgomerie 6th Earl Eglinton (age 56) fought for the Royal army. Lionel Carey (age 22) was killed. John Hay 1st Marquess Teviotdale (age 18) fought for the Parliamentary army.

At the Battle of Marston Moor Lucas (age 31) swept Fairfax's Yorkshire horse before him, but later in the day he was taken prisoner, in a battle won decisively by Parliament.

John Dolben (age 19) fought for the Royalists.

William Eure was killed.

Philip Musgrave 2nd Baronet (age 37) fought for the Royalists.

John Fenwick (age 42) was killed.

Evelyn's Diary. 30 Oct 1649. I was at the funeral of one Mr. Downes, a sober English gentleman. We accompanied his corpse to Charenton, where he was interred in a cabbage-garden, yet with the office of our church, which was said before in our chapel at Paris. Here I saw also where they buried the great soldier, Gassion, who had a tomb built over him like a fountain, the design and materials mean enough. I returned to Paris with Sir Philip Musgrave (age 42), and Sir Marmaduke Langdale, since Lord Langdale. Memorandum. This was a very sickly and mortal autumn.

1651 Manx Rebellion

Between Sep 1651 and Nov 1651 a rebellion against the Royalist leader of the Isle of Man James Stanley 7th Earl of Derby (age 44) who had been captured at the Battle of Worcester. His wife Charlotte Thouars Countess Derby (age 51) resisted the rebels with the aid of Philip Musgrave 2nd Baronet (age 44) and Illiam Dhone (her husband's Receiver General). The Countess eventually surrendered after hearing of her husband's death. Illiam Dhone changed sides and worked with Parliamentarian soldiers to achieve a bloodless coup. Illiam Dhone was eventually arrested by the Earl's son Charles Stanley 8th Earl of Derby (age 23) and execy=uted by firing squad at Hango Hill on 02 Jan 1663.

Battle of Worcester

On 03 Sep 1651 at Worcester, Worcestershire [Map] the Battle of Worcester Oliver Cromwell (age 52) commanded the Parliamentary army with Charles Howard 1st Earl Carlisle (age 22). In the Royalist army Francis Talbot 11th Earl of Shrewsbury (age 28), Thomas Blagge (age 38) and Archibald Campbell 9th Earl Argyll (age 22) fought. Thomas Wentworth 1st Earl Cleveland (age 60) was captured. Giles Strangeways (age 36) provided 300 gold pieces to King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland (age 21) following his defeat to aid his escape.

Henry Lyttelton 2nd Baronet (age 27) fought for the Royalists, was captured and spent 17 months imprisoned in the Tower of London [Map].

Philip Musgrave 2nd Baronet (age 44) fought for th Royalists.

On 31 May 1660 [his son] Christopher Musgrave 4th Baronet (age 28) and [his daughter-in-law] Mary Cogan were married.

On or after 16 Apr 1671 [his son] Christopher Musgrave 4th Baronet (age 39) and [his daughter-in-law] Elizabeth Francklyn Lady Musgrave were married by a license dated 16 Apr 1671.

On 07 Feb 1678 Philip Musgrave 2nd Baronet (age 70) died. His son [his son] Richard Musgrave 3rd Baronet succeeded 3rd Baronet Musgrave of Hartley Castle in Westmoreland.
